Firstly I would like to wish John the best of luck tonight, he is genuinely one of the nicest guys in boxing and trains as hard as anyone I know to achieve his boxing dreams.

Imo John's style will frustrate Ronnie and John will win on a points decision, I was surprised when I saw pictures of them at the weigh in at just how much bigger John looked.

John has had great sparring with bigger guys in David Brophy, Tommy Philbin (81kg Amateur with good pedigree) as preparation for this fight and I don't think Ronnie will be as effective at coming forward against Light Middleweights the way he did at Welter.

I admit I've only seen Ronnie Heffron on a few occasions and would like to hear what others think?

    Thain UD points.

Iv'e seen John Thain fight a handful a times on Ricky's undercards and he is a good prospect.
I know he struggled at the Wembley show last April, but he's bounced back with a good win over Max Maxwell who is a tough fighter. John is the bigger man and is used to fighting bigger guys than Heffron.
Thain should use his strengh and size advantage to boss Heffron about and win on points, but i wont be surprised if Heffron outworks him and sneaks it either.
Good fight this, i'm looking forward to this one the most tonight.

Agree, very interesting 50/50 fight. Anyone know how the bookies have priced them up?

I thought John Thain kept Heffron at bay and won the fight 97-94.

    The ref was shite.

Me and you just see things differently

Seriously, i thought Thain deserved that, and no wonder the kid's thinking about packing it in. Very disappointing :-(

But that was a close fight. He shouldn't pack it in because he steps up and loses, he didn't do enough to leave the decision without any doubt. Heffron was the aggressor and in the early rounds Thain did not do enough.
One thing with boxing is that you don't always get what you deserve, but sometimes you can make your own luck.
