FIRST RIGHT HAND LEAD BY WILLIAMS, SHOT OVER A HERNANDEZ JAB, DROPPING HERNANDEZ!!! Shaking it off, Hernandez approaches with a pawing double jab. Sharp right hand leads by Williams circling to his left. Quick jabs by Williams, keeping Hernandez off-rhythm as he lunges and misses with the step-in as Williams turns him, gliding smoothly around Hernandez. Williams catches a 1-2 on his forearms and waves a counter hook as Hernandez hangs back. Body feints by Hernandez leaning in, reeling back with his guard up. Williams jabs with his left from a low-carry sling. Quick bouncy footwork by Williams, crisscrossing in either direction and making Hernandez turn and reset every second. Sharp jabs by Williams. Lunging right on the body by Hernandez.

That's pretty funny, Julian Williams actually hates the nickname "J Rock" but his trainer insisted on using it and it has stuck.

 

Round 2

Hernandez is throwing jabs and 1-2s coming forward. Williams sits low and catches Hernandez's straight punches on his bunched vertically-held forearms, countering with short textbook hooks and hatchet rights. Hernandez begins to reach around the elbows with body hooks as Williams flits in and out, up on his toes but dropping the heel to add power to his counters and hold firm as Hernandez tries knocking him off balance with body lobs.

Round 3

Hernandez is jabbed in the face as he steps in and spreads his gloves to begin rolling out his own jab. 1-2 on the arms by Hernandez. Right hands leads on the body by Hernandez. Counter jabs on the chin by Williams. Hernandez bodies up against Williams and tries pounding at his sides, but Williams slips away from him, taking a half step outside. Hernandez is caught by a perfect counter left hook on the chin leaning down to re-initiate the clinch as Williams pushes out with his right arm into Hernandez's chest to prevent it and make sure there is space for the left to land. Hernandez is down and out! Sitting up, ignoring the count.

Rapidly improving prospect. The "J-Rock" of 2013/2014 is light years ahead of the J-Rock of 2010-2012.

He was honestly on his way to obliterating touted fellow prospect Hugo Centeno Jr. on a FS1 card last September when an opportune cut led to a NC and kept Centeno's zero intact.

Williams says he needs to work harder than other aspiring elites because there is nothing especially 'marketable' about him (no tattoos, no twin brother, no moonlighting side career as rapper...) and he always likes to outdo more well-known guys versus common opponents, after Malignaggi points out that Hernandez lasted the distance with the likes of Erislandy Lara and Demetrius Andrade.

 

Catching up on Kavanagh vs. Navarro on DVR, total slug-fest. Kavanagh always makes hard work of everything. Coming off his first loss (a knockout at that) he is standing in there brawling with a tough and willing journeyman. :-(
