Let's say he had a granite chin, or better yet a solid chin.

How good would he be? He became champ, and ALMOST cleaned out 140 with a bum chin, how good would he be without it?

    Can't have it all...

either way even if he had a granite chin that ****** strength Garcia left hook would have put him down.

    He had phenomenal speed.

That has eroded, he's no longer the speedy fighter he once was, as per the Diaz showing.
I think without his speed, he is MEDIOCRE.

He'd still be lacking in ring IQ, still would have all those glaring technical flaws. Defense, in-fighting, balance, footwork.

I've seen him throw nice combinations earlier in his career against lesser opposition, but most of his combos now are arm flurries that don't have much leverage, don't create and exploit openings.

A better set of whiskers would see Khan with a loss or two less on his record by the end of his career and he'd end up regarded as a better fighter because of it, but if people think that all that's missing from Khan being a great all-round fighter and a pound for pound operator, then they're off the mark.

His lack of an inside game and ring IQ has cost him just as much as his chin, really. His dazzling flurries and quick feet mean he can isolate rangey fighters on the outside but fighters with good timing (the key to dealing with speed) and fighters who can take his shot and work their way inside, where Khan has no game and not all that much strength, would always give him problems even if you put Hagler's chin on him.

In that respect, while he'd have been spared the Prescott loss, I still think the nightmares against Peterson (albeit I thought Khan was unlucky there) and Garcia could easily have happened, and similar things would / will happen again before his career is done.

    Wrong.

The speed is still there. The only difference is Virgil Hunter has changed his style, so he doesn't rush in throwing speedy combos etc, which may appear like he doesn't look as fast.

It doesn't matter how good your chin is, when your ring IQ is as low as Khan's you get KOd.

Khan with his relentless style and iron chin would be sensational fighter I believe. Sure he would lost to elite technical operators but he would definately be a big boxing star for the sheer excitement of his bouts. A bit like Oscar De La Hoya.

Pre Virgil Khan with an iron chin would be a very very hard guy to beat

If Khan had a good chin and could fight on the inside he'd be much better arguably a top 10 P4P fighter. Even then he wouldn't be complete he still would have **** footwork and somewhat of a low ring IQ.

Yea i caught on to that a long time ago. Has tough skin and usually in clash of heads etc, his opponent bears the brunt of it greatly whilsthe comes off relatively unscathed.

His real problem is his glass boxing IQ. You can't have everything in boxing and you have to adapt and build your style around your strengths while trying to minimize your weaknesses. Even if he had a granite chin he will still be out-boxed and out-foxed by smarter fighters. Look at the Peterson fight. Ok I scored that one for Khan but still Peterson made it really closer by banging to the body, it is not like he hurt him with a head punch. Who knows probably Bradley was going to out-fox him regardless of his chin. Floyd will always box his ears off.
