Same thing in the Cruiserweight division. Why hasnt Wlodarczyk fought Huck by now? Or the other guy, Hernandez(?). None of these guys are fighting one another. To me, that is unacceptable

So Quillin is NFC champ at 160 for fighting sub-par opposition but being the king of SHO/Haymon?

I respectfully don't think so. To me, tough luck if the lineal champ is in the opposite "league". Work your way there.

The Champ fights whoever makes him the most money, and at this time because of QC interest re: Stevenson's fanbase that's Hopkins. Haymon will facilitate that.

Martinez is not fighting Golovkin yet he's in the same "league" as GGG. :huh

Its the Mayweather Model that people want to emulate. They somehow forget that Mayweather actually took some really tough fights when he was coming up and think that protecting the "0" or the belt long enough will somehow make them superstars.

Because Martinez is coming off a layoff. And GGG apparently said he's not ready.

Martinez is talking retirement. GGG is fighting Chavez Jr which would set the stage for a Martinez fight, yet Sergio is calling it quits and DiBella wants the Alvarez if Sergio doesn't retire.

    Now THAT's whats up!!!

Fuk these whiny ass bytches, crying like little girls because they won't get to see some UFC ****.

Stevenson is going to make bank and not look like Holyfield financially, or punch drunk like Bradley, all due to his association with Al Haymon.
Haymon, like any other business man wants to get paid, but he is different then Arum and Goosen and actually knows he can get paid without destroying the financial or personal lives of the fighters he represents.

Stevenson is 36 years old. He has maybe another 3-4 years left to earn and few million before retiring.
STFU and let the man work! :yep

UFC ****? So i'm expecting takedowns and submissions? Or am I simply expecting a CHAMPION to defnd his title against another champion who has been calling him out in public and calling him a ***** on TV?

Stevenson-Pascal will not happen until one of them gives in and cashes out to retire. It's a taunting game right now. As long as they're active fighters, it would be promotional suicide for GYM. Bute was done, hence the Pascal fight. Interbox and GYM joined forces financially just to survive.

Pascal doesn't have an HBO contract btw. Stevenson just signed a 2+ fight contact with Showtime. Dawson recently signed with Haymon. Watch Pascal-Dawson II getting signed soon... on Showtime. Pascal and Stevenson just want to one up each other until one of them loses.

As far as Quillin.. yeah I think its an apt analogy. Just in this case its pretty obvious who would win were the "Superbowl" actually held at 160... and it aint Quillin. Superbowl mismatches happen all the time actually.

As far as Martinez... well, analogies arent meant to be perfect and cover all scenarios.

But think of it this way. If Cotto won because Martinez knee just suddenly gave out during the fight, then Cotto becomes "the man" at 160 right? Ok, I can buy that.

But then Cotto fights Floyd where the contracted max weight is over 154... Floyd wins, so is Floyd suddenly the "man" at MW? So lets take it further, then Floyd finally fights PAC.. and the contract sets weight ceiling again above 154.. and lets say for the sake of this thought experiment that PAC wins.. is PAC now "the man" at 160? So then PAC fights Provodnikov - a 140 pounder, but the contract sets max weight again above 154. Ruslan wins... still "the man" at 160?

I think there are a lot of generally unspoken caveats that come with being "the man" at a weight division. Its not a perfect science...

Maybe a better analogy would be that knocking out the "man" is a valid claim to the throne. But just like Princes of old, your rivals need to be crushed each generation to solidify that claim. Sometimes it turns out that though you may have a King in name, other people end up actually running the Kingdom. Being crowned isnt enough - you need to establish your authority and crush the pretenders or else the history books will write you off as a mere figurehead.

"the man" is the man who cleaned out the division. Or did the next best thing.

I'd even be willing to call Hopkins the man. But in order to maintain that status, he needs to fight the other champions and the up and comers.

That's a lot of "if's" in that Cotto-Floyd-Pac-Prov scenario. :think

Unfortunately if Cotto beats Martinez I'm prepared to declare Cotto 'the man' in the division. Otherwise if that's not a logical train of thought, you would have to force the concept of Golovkin being 'the man' at 160 upon everybody here -- won't sit well, even though you and I know Golovkin is more talented than 2014 Sergio and would beat Quillin/Sturm.

As far as crushing the last recognized champ, Stevenson did that.
