Is Bernard Hopkins; Last Of The Real Prizefighter Breed??

Everybody is always whining about who isn't fighting who and this or that bout not being made in today's boxing climate.

Meanwhile, the last of the old school breed of boxer has been holding up the tradition and facing tough and competitive competion and amazingly, getting less than adequate props.

At 49 years old, Master boxer Bernard Hopkins is about to break his own record for being the oldest person to win a championship title by facing hard punching Beibut Shumenov for the WBA/IBF Super LHW titles.
So, what response does Hopkins receive for this amazing challenge from so-called boxing fans?
Oh, Shumenov is the weakest link, or
Oh, He should have been fighting Stevenson, or
Oh, He's afraid of to fight Kovalev

In his last 6 fights since 2011. Over the last 3 years, Bernard Hopkins has taken tough fights each and every match.
From his mandatory with Karo Murat, who was 25-1 at the time and 18 years younger that Hopkins to 24-0 Tavoris Cloud who many said was too young, too strong and punched too hard for Hopkins to defeat.
Prior to that Hopkins had back to bck matches with 16 years younger 31-0 Bad Chad Dawson before Hopkins lost a narrow decision to the younger fighter.
Let's not forget that preceeding Dawson, Hopkins had just come off of back to back bouts with 15 years younger 26-1 Jean Pascal.

Say what you will about Bernard Hopkins, but what you can't say is that Hopkins is not a true warrior.

The truly amazing thing is, he is not through yet. After his bout with Shumenov, win or lose, he will still likely try to take on one of the other new young guns, either Kovalev or Stevenson.

Love him or hate him, you gotta respect him.
Bernard Hopkins is a dying breed of prize fighter.
Like it or not, Bernard Hopkins lives, breaths, and has always been a true prize fighting champion. He's been a champion for most of his pro career, and very likely, he'll retire as a ATG/HOF champion. One of the very best in Professional Middleweight history. :yep

 

Like it or not, Murat was his mandatory, winning the spot by defeating Campillo in Germany.
Granted, Murat was his weakest opponent of the last 6 years.
I think Hopkins had planned to make the best of the fight by winning by KO.

Dawson and Kovalev are two completely different fighters.

You lost all credibility when you labelled BHOP, one of the most durable fighters in the sport as fragile.
