Thx, I like this guy. He has a passionate deserved arrogance that some cannot come to grips with. He came up through a tough upbringing and flourished. He seems very down to earth and grounded, he seems to be the type of person to sit and have a beer with you without thinking twice about it. He might brag on himself(rightfully so) but would want to listen and encourage at the same time . One of the better personalities in professional sports IMO.

Hey,to go from a 7th grade education to tope of the heap of heavyweights, and a true champion... That's saying something, and nobody handed Larry Holmes a damn thing. I wish he truly knew how well respected he is amongst true, knowledgeable boxing fans... I had a chance to meet him at the unveiling of the Marciano statue, and he was a class act. He made amends with the Marciano family and came to pay his respects... Great boxer, huge heart and without a doubt, the best jab the heavyweight division has ever seen.

I'm truly blown away that he doesn't get the recognition he deserves or to see that he doesn't feel that he gets it. Maybe he should look at sites like these to see that he gets tons of props and he catches grief as well but then so do all boxing greats. Greats will have the people who love them and the people that hate them . The difference is with Holmes is that he is heavily favored by many here as a top 5 all time heavy and probably doesnt know it. Maybe he is basing his analysis of "BOXING EXPERTS"/critics opinions, the Burt Sugars the Al Berstein's etc (im not sure if those are the best examples of experts/critics) but yall see what im trying to get across.

I thought the same way about how he spoke of the Tyson fight, he wasn't intimidated(at least he didn't look intimidated) I thought he was in it. That's Don the crazy haired Queen for you, set a date and then flip it at a moments notice (300G cash probably made Larry forget to read the fine print), **** give Holmes the original fight date and a shot at more preparation (even though it wouldve still been a short amount of time to prepare for somebody who had been retired but better than January) and who knows. Let's review the Tyson Holmes fight shall we and I want yall to tell me this guy is scared and that he isn't in it. He isnt running, he is adapting to the situation and trying to set Tyson up.

Larry wasn't scared of Tyson or intimidated by him. I still think the perception of Holmes would have been much different without the jockstrap comment

LennoxLewis is right concerning the "Marciano couldn't carry my jockstrap..." comment.

I totally agree... That one line, coming immediately after a heartbreaking loss. In the heat of the moment, hurt Holmes for a long time. But he truly made amends with the Marciano family and like I said, was one of the very few that made their way to the unveiling of Marciano`s statue...
