Is Griffith In The Top Ten At Welter?

The welterweight division is probably the most difficult one to create a top 10 list for. Only #1 and #2 are a sure thing for me, and that's Robinson and Armstrong. From there its pretty much up for grabs. I think its possible that he could be

 

Could call MM. I think Griffith gets in. Great skills solid chin and some good victories against some solid fighters as well. It would have been interesting to see how much great he would have become if not for the Benny Paret tragedy... I feel it truly altered his fighting style...

I reckon so,yeah. Welter is arguably the most competitive division for P4P lists,so it's quite an achievement.

 

Just looked up Griffith's record. In 1959 he fought a guy named Randy Sandy. Of all the names..

 

Hey, Randy Sandy was a good fighter! Don't know if he was ever world-rated but I know he beat both Griffith and Tiger early in their careers. Every pic I ever saw of him it looked like he was struggling with an ill-fitting mouthpiece.

 

I kind of doubted so, then McGrain kindly reminded me of his record in title fights ( and there were a lot of them) and I had to rethink that and revise my opinion. Wrote before I thought enough, I guess.
