Please God don't let this happen. They are thinking about a 'huge' event in Russia for a WBA championship belt between Alexander Povetkin and Oleg Maskaev.

The Big O won his last 3 fights, beating journeymen (and totally shot) Danny Williams, Jason Gavern and Owen Beck.

Povetkin lost his last fight (or was it wrestling?) against Wladimir Klitschko.

If this happens, I hope for Maskaev it won't last long, because he will get a beating from Povetkin. :patsch

Any links for this? I wouldn't mind this fight actually. A good comeback fight for Povetkin against a name rather than a tough journeyman. As soon as he looks good and destroys Maskaev with ease we'll see Povetkin right in there with a legitimate foe then.

They are doubts that Ortiz would take that fight. He is also fighting Monte Barrett next week so I don't think he would fight Povetkin any time soon. Maybe after the possible Maskaev fight...

 Maskaev should retire. He went life and death with one of his last three foes and got knocked down.

    Povetkin should fight Ustinov next.

Way I see it more power to them.

Oleg Maskaev is a joke really and has been a joke for a very very long time. Povetkin is also a joke, almost losing to gayass german fighter Marco Huck and allowing Wladimir to hug him for 12 rounds.

Still. If Russian boxing fans want to see this fight and these men want to fight eachother then by all means.

Maskaev is not even in the WBA's top 15 no way the WBA would sanction such a mismatch. Ortiz is their top ranked contender it will be Ortiz/Povetkin for the WBA regular title. If Povetkin does fight Maskaev the title won't be on line it will be a warm up fight prior to fighting for the title.

WBA is all about the money. Maskaev vs Povetkin would sell well in Russia

Nah, Maskaev should just retire, at this point Povetkin beats him up pretty badly.

I disagree. Povetkin will KO him within the first minute.

Maskaev is shot to death. He's insulting our sport by attempting to get another payday.

Frankly, if the Hasim Rahman that fought Povetkin can get a title fight...why not Maskaev?
