he said it sooooo smoothly, which made it that much more hilarious

It corresponds perfectly with the history of that conflict.

While I disagree with the sentiment entirely, it captures perfectly what a obnoxious moron the guy must have been.
On the other hand, also shows his total UNIQUENESS, because while I'm sure many men (mostly white) have said that exact same thing in history, he's got to be the only one who gets called a "Civil Rights Hero" and a "crusader AGAINST racism".
Truly amazing.

Also during his post Liston 1 tirade (I shook up the world etc etc) he says: "...I am the Devil. I'm a bad man." I cannot imagine the furore this caused in conservative America, having a Black man on TV say such things with such swag. No wonder he was so divisive....
