You sound like you would be killing boxing if u think he should've did that

 

From my understanding, Oscar wanted the rematch on the same terms as the first fight while Mayweather thought he deserved more since he won the first fight. Since Oscar refused to budge, Mayweather "retired".

 

I don't think it's Floyd's fault,, once every generation you get special boxers like Floyd, SRL, Hearns and many others, Floyd's just levels above others in his generation, something like Holmes during his reign, and presently Wlad and his run

the ams may be declining in the US, but in countries like the Ukraine, Kazachstan, Russia or Azerbaijan they are being well financed and backed, which is why there is a big increase in talented pros from the former Eastern block, before you had decorated amateurs like DLH or Whitaker

i think it's also due to boxing not being a mainstream sport anymore, it used to be aired free on TV and many of the more casual fans had a chance to watch guys that the might never have heard of today with only ESPN or NBC showing a card from time to time

It's funny because the same people who say Floyd ducked the Oscar rematch did Oscar was old when Floyd beat him.. You want him to fight an 'old, shot, out of prime' Oscar twice? He's ducking a past prime fighter that he just beat his last fight...

Nobody wanted to see that rematch it's true. If anyone demonstrates this problem though it is B Hop who can't retire because as he says, 'he can still beat half of these guys".

 

The only problem Floyd has is that he way more talented than all of the guys at or near his weight class.

 

There definitely is a relative dearth of teaching/training. The thing I like about Floyd in the ring is that he knows the nuances of boxing. He has the technical skills down: good footwork, effective at all ranges, goes to the body, good punching technique. While I think everyone would like to see him throw more combos, he doesn't throw bull**** flurries without thought or accuracy, like say, Khan and Alexander often do. His combos actually create and exploit openings. He knows how to fight on the inside, something that is severely lacking nowadays.

Great skills and knowledge of the sport...he's been taught since he was a toddler on how to box. He happens to have physical gifts to go with it.

Why do you think fighters like B-Hop and Marquez are able to excel at such old ages? They actually know a lot about boxing, how to throw meaningful combinations, where to place their feet and body, how to counter, etc, etc....There is a real lack of proper teaching and you see it in the declined technical skills of today's fighters, as a whole.

I have little doubt that some of the great fighters would still have been great in prior eras.

But a lot of the belt-holders out? Or contenders? That's a different story.
