Mayweather's feet are slower. His defense while arguably equal in practice is more limited, Whitaker unarguably had and utalized more defensive variety than Mayweather. Whitaker was a far more active puncher.

In a battle of defensive fighters the advantage goes to the fighter with the better and quicker footwork because who lands more will be determined by how can get the better angles on their opponent.

Pernell relied more on his reflexes that were dulled ( by drugs and rough lifestyle) by the time he got to WW. @ 147 I gotta give the edge clearly to Floyd. @135 i would give the edge to Pernell.

I'd agree towards the end of his WW career but at 29 when he first moved up he was at his absolute best.

WHO THE HELL ARE YOU? You come on here talking crap about how you box but never say your name . . . do you really suck that bad that you are to embarrassed to say who you are? I bet you never set foot in a ring in your life. How can someone who LIVES boxing you are COMPLETELY ignorant about the sport? I am glad you don't post on here anymore because you are nothing but an internet tough guy who supposedly knows everything. Consider this your unwelcome message to keep you are ass off of this board until you buy a clue:hi:

I love the revisionist history. In 10 years when fighter X is hot today's Floyd haters will be saying that Mayweather would have KO'd him.

Mayweather beats Whitaker, clearly. Zab is not a good comparison because he has much more power (and much less heart) than Sweet Pea. Other than the fact that Roger put sweet pea on the canvas, he is irrelevant. Floyd would have shut out Roger, period. People say that Sweet Pea's defense was better, but how can that be? He took way more damage than Mayweather ever did. Emmanuel Augustus would give Sweet Pea a hell of a fight.

Floyd finds Whitaker easier than Whitaker finds Floyd and when Floyd finds him he does more damage. Pernell would do better than any fighter today but he still loses 8-4.

Sparring means ****. Pea was old at the time he sparred Floyd.
Spadafora is on vid beating the **** out of mayweather so much so floyd collapsed after the spar ended. There's been many examples of Floyd getting his ass handed to him in sparring. Errol Spence most recently. They asked spence to leave the camp

Sweet pea would thrive in any era. He was just that good.

In today's era he would storm through the ranks and end up taking the number 1 or 2 spot on the p4p list.

He beats Bradley, Pac, Rios, Cotto, and finally faces Mayweather where it is a 50/50 fight. A real mega fight.

Explain yourself... are you saying Augustus would have been shut out by Sweet Pea?

Instead I will explain myself. Styles make fights -- you may have heard that before. While he was a head case, Augustus also had great footwork and deception. He also didn't seem to mind getting tagged in the head. He would have pressured Sweet Pea walked through his shots and tagged him up. With his deception/feints he would have an easier time hitting Sweet Pea than most. Augustus would've probably beat Roger Mayweather in his prime who, again, put Sweet Pea on the canvas. I think Sweet Pea wins, but it's a HELL OF A FIGHT.
