Its not his mate as such, Eddie married into the Sims family, his wifes madden name is Sims, and is business partners with Tonys daughter. It was Sims who talked Eddie into being a promoter so he could promote Darren Barker
Its true, in last fight he was only interested in avoiding a fight, bottled it, showed lack of heart for 1st time. Ricky should look closer to his home for his biggest weakness, he will see it in the mirror. Hatton done it, many others go up in class fall short get a new trainer. Look at Froch after Ward fight, he had sense to see it was him that came up short not Rob McCracken his trainer
Quite possible Ryan, but in an interview the other week when asked who the best trainer in the UK was, he said it depends on personalities and where you life, he said if in London/Es*** you would want to go with Tony Sims, in the North West Gallacher, Oliver Harrison and in Scotland Billy Nelson, he also said if you lived in Scotland u wouldn't want to go all the way to get trained by Tony Sims would you? Gut feeling Ricky will after a detour elsewhere will get another Scottish based coach eg maybe Vaughan or Peter Harrison, though I think he will go to US or England at first, and it wont work out! Bottom line is he done great to be the paper champ he was, as no British fighter in my memory has had a career as good as him with so little ability so fair play
Strange one, as Eddie at least publicly suggests such moves are pointless, not to surprised but I bet it is a partnership that wont last 12 months. What does Sims do if Ricky and Mitchell need to fight again? Maybe now he is going elsewhere we may get him to fight Scott Harrison who is getting licence back no probs I understand
Billy Nelson, who's idea was it to have Tony Sims in Rickys corner as your number 2 in last fight? After assisting you how would you feel if he know takes Ricky?
It was my idea to have tony there purely has an extra set of eyes, Ricky will be going to Tonyto train in London, Tony phoned me like a man and said hed been asked by Eddie to train him. I have no issue with this whatsoever and only wish Ricky well, we all move on and get on with it
Fair dos, Sims always comes across as a good guy, and least he phoned you. Is it normal practice for a promoter to get his fighter a trainer? As I would have thought Ricky being experienced as he is would have done that himself, or got his manager o do it. It would suggest to me Eddie has had a part to play in Rickys decision. Look at Mitchell difference Sims has done is keep him in gym most of year so hes fit and not in pub drinking, cant see any other differences than fitness, which is Rickys strong point as hes always in gym, and leads a clean life. As I have said think Rickys level has been found out, and u made best of his tools, and last few performances are down to him in the main. Bet my bottom dollar he will never beat a foreign world champion again, and he forgets he was at domestic level (not even at top of it before u took him on). And in a couple of years time I am sure u will be on here admitting Scott was better than Ricky
Tony has trained as many world champions as Billy. Some of the posts on here about Tony have been a disgrace.
He trained Simpson to beat Lindsay in Belfast to win belt outright, lost with Simpson in aclose fight with smith in Liverpool and don't forget he he trained Limmond who done well against Khan and put him down Considering Nelsons had so few fighters he's done well let's face it, he should go to England
