From outset Sims seems a good trainer, and a person, but has only had a fighter win world 1 world title fight in total, though I am sure if it was not for injury problems Barker would have won more. (he took him all the way through pros), and is number 2 to McCracken when Froch fights though don't think he helps in the camps, I maybe wrong but think Billy has won more as a trainer at top end. But I say again Burns is on slide, is overrated made most of what he had until he shat it in last fight and no trainer will make him great
There is nothing between Nelson and sims it's just burns probably want someone with different ideas he's gonna be sparring Mitchell and Martin j ward regular so that can only help both fighters the next 12 months will see if Burns has made the right choice
I says the same mate , the move is Eddie orientated... If you check my previous tweets I've been 100% right about him going to tony plus fighting javier prieto on the 27th June going the WBC route.. Says it all on Monday... Tony wont do Half of what billy has for Ricky big mistake.
To be fair that very unfair putting that on Tony mate, it was Ricky's choice to freshen things up not Tonys. Now if someone has good has Ricky asked me to train them it would be hard for a trainer to say no because of the level he's at and Tony was up front and called me which not many would do
Listen billy I agree , but when people like me etc knew about it then it's bulls***. In my opinion he will be back sooner rathe than later.. Concentrate on brophs.. Great prospect
I think this is a pointless move. If anything, i think it's a step backwards as Ricky was Billy's top boxer and could give him his undivided attention. He won't get that at Simms, his sparring is going to be similar to what he received with Billy. There's world class trainers out there with a proven track record of taking fighters like Ricky and rejuvenating their careers.
Well a good example is Purdy and Ricky, as Ricky was domestic level with a lack of skills (keen as mustard), now he aint no world beater but Billy taught him to sit down on punches better and better combinations and better footwork, were as Purdy is am honest plodder who don't move head, use good footwork or combinations but is game and is keen as mustard. Now we all see his weaknesses, but I have never noticed Sims improve these weaknesses that the untrained eye can spot so cant see him teaching Ricky much
You've just got it all right :good... No disrespect to tony , great trainer etc. but it's eddie that's pushed for this , I know this for a fact. The grass isn't always greener on the other side. Let billy concentrate on Brophy etc , he's got a good wee stable going right now :smooch
I don't think it reflects badly on Ricky or Billy, I trained under Ricky's first trainer Rab Bannan, and left him to go to another gym, he was a legend and I felt terrible but I knew I needed to change things up for my own motivation levels. Ricky trained under Rab all his life and would have been gutted leaving Rab to go to Billy, but in hindsight it was the right thing to do. Ricky wont think Billy has turned into a bad trainer now, over time you start to feel like you've learned everything youre going to learn as you've become too comfortable and stop listening to them, even though they are still saying the same things. Its the same in football as very few managers can keep winning with the same team over a prolonged period of time. It is part of human nature. A change will freshen up his enthusiasm again.
Confirmed he'll be fighting Javier Prieto. Alex Morrison makes a ridiculous comment. http://scottishfightnews.wordpress....rms-ricky-burns-is-back-on-world-title-trail/
Complete lack of class from morrison with his comments on billy, especially when you consider how dignified Billy has been in terms of wishing him luck. Very easy to blame the trainer, they should be praising him for all the work he did with Ricky.
Strong words by big Alex, I assume Ricky agrees with the points. I must say some of the things Billy was heard advising Ricky during recent fights were wrong, but considering what Billy done for Rickys career team Burns should have kept quiet, and had more dignity. So Ricky is fighting a guy that has been beat 7 times, only chance Matchroom have of selling Braehead out is because of Joshua and Simmons fights bring half the punters in to see them
