Deontay Wilder 31-0-0-0 (KO 31), an URGE to PURGE!

Would love that fight. TBF, Johnson called him out before and Wilder wouldn't do it. Stylistically, I think the fight would answer questions about Wilder. Can Wilder cope with a iron chinned, skilled boxer with great defense (even though Johnson's workrate is too low and heart is questionable). That's the type of fight Wilder hasn't faced to this point. To me, the toughest contender Wilder could face, stylistically, is Arreola or Stiverne, one of whom he will be the mandatory challenger of. Johnson would be great prep for that (even though its mostly different style challenges, it would still teach and test Wilder). Obviously, it would only make sense if his team was very confident he would win, though.

 

No way would Wilder be able to beat Johnson.

 

Wilder is fortunate that like the Klitschkos he is fighting in the era of bums

 

The Klitschko's fight the best of the bums. Wilder is fighting bums from the bottom of the pile.

I'm still waiting for more before I make a judgement on Wilder. Certainly is a physical specimen, but that doesn't always translate into success in boxing. Still waiting for those legs to be tested with a solid punch.

That being said, I think he's ready to start stepping up the competition. Wilder should take on a few of the top contenders before going after one of the brothers. Just IMO. Arreola is a good test if he fights him. I'm not big on Arreola, so if Wilder is the 'real deal' he should dispatch him without too much trouble. Again, Just IMO. Arreola is a good heavyweight, not going to diss him and call him a bum, but if a guy wants to claim to be 'world class' and the next big thing in the heavyweight division, he should be able to handle him.

 

Eltirado, what do you make of Wilder's low weight for his size? I'm open to him being great, would like to see it, but I'm wary. His opposition is better than some make it out to be, although it hasn't been great. But I'm more concerned about only 225 lbs on a 6'7 frame. That's a bit of a red flag for me.

 

See above. I have a similar concern about his legs.

 

Wilder's hype level has gone into overdrive. In a couple of years there will be a thread like this one "Was Calzaghe's dispatching of Jeffrey Lacy one of the greatest/best wins of this" about Wilder being beaten by some average boxer. When he does get beat everyone will think the guy that beat him is great until they realise Wilder was just so poor.

 

I don't know if he's "poor." That's a bit extreme. But I agree that I'm hesitant to place the "next coming" title on him. I'm still waiting to see more against stiffer opposition. I wouldn't mind seeing him fight Arreola as I said above. If he's the 'real deal' he should be able to handle Chris.

 

Wilder v.s Johnson is an accident waiting to happen, Wilder can't box at all.... Just looks for the early knockout, my prediction would be Johnson by hilarious accidental knockout. Either that or Wilder gasses horribly after flailing his arms around and failing to hit KJ with anything of note, and gets knocked out sometime between rounds 4-7. His management would never let this fight happen, as Johnson can actually box and take a punch.
