Cannot see people rushing to watch him as he lacked excitement. Ricky Burns did look flat on the night and did not look anywhere near the man who beat Martinez.
Crawford done the job he came here to do he's akward to hit and Ricky looked reluctant to swarm him incase he got caught with a counter which was probably the right thing to do, While I wasn't excited by Crawford and don't think he's as good as he was hyped up to be he is still a good fighter.
Yeah he is good but not special. Agree Ricky would have been taking a risk trying to put it on him, but would you not agree after 7-8 rounds he should have at least taking the risk to try and keep his world title? Or give it up in a whimper as he did?
Fighters are proud people if he took a risk that could have wound up in him getting stopped and every fighter would rather finish a fight on his feet and say he gave it his best shot.
How is running away from guy and doing everything in your power giving it your best shot. As everyone will now I always believed Ricky was vastly overrated but he is got ability to a good degree or he would not have had career he has. He certainly has enough to trade with Crawford who was not heavy handed himself. If someone is quicker than you, has a better jab than you, you need to get in close and rough him up. Ricky done that with Mitchell who is more slick/faster than Ricky and ended up dismantling him
People are seriously underrating Crawford here, he's a class act. With him it's all about economy of movement. The guy could have fought 20 or 30 rounds that night such was the ease in which he was winning the fight. After the 3rd rounds Burns barely laid a glove on him. Crawford will be the No.1 lightweight for a long time.
i agree Ricky was a little flat which for me was baffling has he was looking great in sparring, however you cant take away anything from crawford who performed excellently. People forget Ricky was under a lot of pressure coming back after the jaw being broken and carrying the hopes of the nation on his back again. Im sure Ricky can bounce back and keep the big nights comong in Glasgow:good
Always seems to be a great amount of Negativity towards Ricky and his achievements on this forum yet probably one of the most talked about fighters on here , Speaks volumes for me that theres a lot of closet ricky burns fans
Fair play to both concerned, no malicious break up, and both leave with respect for each other, however, after a fighter loses his last 2 or 3 fights, its in their nature to look to blame someone else, usually his coach!! Not saying this is the case though, but changing coaches, is a statement in its own! Not exactly sure if anyone else can bring ricky on any further, what he lacks in my opinion, is a real killer instinct, and morepunch power! To achieve this he will need more explosive weight work, thus having to move up a weight! I think the way shane mcguigan has got carl frampton in shape that could be a good move, as I dont think theres any trainer out there that could get ricky to box any differently!! What he pr8bably needs more than anything though, is a change of surroundings!!
Billy - I am a supporter of Ricky's, as my previous posts on this forum will atest, I've bought tickets to watch him since he was fighting in sports halls, so I am no hater. But...I hope you, or he, are not suggesting his comparitive poor performance against Crawford was due to him "carrying the hopes of a nation"? I can't get my head around this arguement. Surely Ricky has dedicated his life to get to the position where 10,000 of us are attending the shows he is headlining and that 10,000 of us rabid Scots are cheering him on with every punch. That must be what he and you wanted. I see you trying to get us going to support him more, when you send him out at the end of the round. Fair enough regarding the jaw but - with all due respect - how does our fanatical support make him fight worse?
Well that's simple to answer, because at present Scotland hasn't many champions if Ricky were to lose the big nights at the SECC wouldn't happen hence Ricky lost and the next fights at Braehead, now I personally like Braehead but the majority prefer the bigger arena the 10,000 not the 5,000 and of coarse that could have a knock on affect potentially for the prospect In Scotland
Very true ive heard it came straight from eddie hearn to prospects on the undercard , if ricky loses you lot are fcucked
