What profession or major do you guys think would be the best supplement to a boxer and also serve as a nice safety net to fall back on in case his career doesn't work out?

The reason i ask is that i'm currently in uni right now, i'm studying business administration. I want to give boxing a real go but just in case it fails it would be nice to have a diploma to fall back on. I'm a decent boxer, i have had a couple of trainers that train world champions tell me that i have the talent to be a world champion but i never really was dedicated to the sport until very recently. After talking with some people, imo law or some kind of sports management would have been the best choice for but my grades ain't high enough for law and sports management doesn't seem like a secure job to me if your career doesn't workout.

My uni has a pretty good business school so i'm thinking between staying in badmin or switching to accounting. Finance is interesting as hell but the job prospects and its lack of relevence to aiding a boxing career makes it a somewhat distant third. Economics is also an option but it is last by a wide margin.

Accounting is probably the safest choice and one of the best if you ever decide to open your own business but that **** is BORING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Badmin seems like its good in general but thats the problem, it seems too general to me. Don't really know what kind of job prospects are available after that. Imo its probably the best if you want to open your own business.

I'm curious if anyone has any interesting suggestions.

Probably the Military in all fairness. Potential for a good career and opportunity to get good qualifactions (depending on the trade you do within it) and you get to train and box as part of your job.

Hmm true but it doesn't really help with the business side of boxing.

^^ Thanks a ton for the advice Son of gaul. The only serious response to the answer lol. I totally get what you mean by sense of accomplishment, uni has such a different feel from college. It feels like my life is actually progressing somewhere.

But the reason i feel i need to take my oppertunity now is cus i'm 21, an athletes life is short as **** so i'm hoping to take my chances but also earn a degree that would actually be helpful to my boxing career should it work out.

What about learning about the muscular side of things so you get involved in training / injuries / sports massage? opens up to more than boxing aswell!

To be blunt this is just dumb.

Learn something you enjoy and will excel at, not something that may help a hobby you may or may not do well in in the future.

I'm not trying to rain on your parade, but don't do boxing. It's not worth it.

    Concentrate on being an accountant.

Just work out, keep yourself in shape, you can box if you want when you got time, but don't make it your lifestyle.

You'll regret it because the time you should be putting into your schoolwork, you're wasting by putting into boxing training.

Don't get me wrong, get the technique down, spar a little, maybe have some fights, but after that, just maintain it as a once a week thing.

I think strength training is more important in the long run and it's easily accessable and convenient if you use calesthenic strength training.

I would also add kettlebell swings and turkish get ups as they are not only great at building total body strength and stability, but they also work your conditioning and endurance.

That's my 2 cents. Don't be a fool, stay in school.

    I agree with this.

Don't get me wrong, I may not agree with HIVirus' lifestyle, but this advice is solid.
