In my life time, I would have to say Marquez vs. Pacquiao IV. Here are my reasons: 1) Pacquiao was ranked by many as one of the top two best fighters in the sport 2) Pacquiao had looked dominant in almost every round in more than a decade 3) Pacquiao had not been knocked out or close to it in more than a decade 4) Pacquiao was dominating the rounds before the stoppage 5) Marquez full extention counter setup was a masterpiece 6) Marquez one punch knocked Pacquiao cold for minutes 7) Marquez avenged previous decisions of an epic trilogy 8) Marquez punch was literally heard around the world 9) The fight was one of the biggest events of the year 10) The fight lived up to its hype of a definitive winner
The keyword there was almost. I know there were some fighters who had his number on numerous occassions but overall Pacquiao had blitz through a lot of other fighters.
There should be a criteria for a perfect KO punch. It's not just about brutality the best one punch KO should also have had historical significance. That's why my vote will always go to Marciano vs. Walcott. Someone already said it above but Marciano was knocked down in the first round, was behind on the scorecards heading into the last two rounds of a 15 round fight. He needed that KO and without it he wouldn't have had the heavyweight crown and he never would have retired as the undefeated heavyweight champ. The Pac vs. Marquez KO was amazing no doubt but did it have the same significance? What belt were they fighting for? There is no p4p title the reason why it was so high profile is because people feel like Marquez was robbed before and it felt like justice, but Pacquioa and Marquez aren't in their peaks. No one had a ton to gain, it was just two of the best fighters fighting and one was KO'd. It just doesn't appear to have the same kind of historical significance to me.
Mike Weaver's spectacular one-punch KO of John Tate in the final round (when he was hopelessly behind) to win the heavyweight championship
My ass it was, unless you were a *******. Most people didn't give two shits about that fight, myself included. Was nice to see Pacquiao knocked out, though.
was kinda hoping a Classic regular would come on and try to dispute it Marciano Walcott is the most famous KO in boxing history but JMM KO6 Pac is so much more astonishing. Pac was the P4P King at the time (other than that part timer), and he waited til JMM was what - 40? A slow old man. And the steroid guzzling little cheat took all the purse as always, had the ref and the judges in his pocket.... JMM had other ideas Marcianos KO of Walcott was epic Marquez' KO of Pacquiao was epic, and utterly shocking Its the most historic KO in boxing (awaiting all the crusties cries)
I guess Robinson-Fullmer 2. Hard to pick just one. Hearns-Duran wasn't a one punch KO. Duran was already hurt before that last right hand. Actually he was hurt since the first KD in the first. Same with Foreman-Moorer. Moorer was already hurt from the first 1-2 (according to Moorer)
Foreman vs Moorer set a record for the oldest HW champ, and at the time the oldest guy to win a legit championship period. Way too underrated on here, not to mention Foreman took an absolute beating in that fight, amazing he still knocked him out. Yeah I know Moorer wasn't as great of a puncher at HW, but dude could still bang, listen to some of the shits he landed on Foreman's skull. Foreman lost every minute of the fight up until this point, and then made history in a split second. This is most definitely my vote.
In terms of historical significance, it isn't anywhere near the top. In terms of sheer brutality, a "holy ****, what a brutal knockout!" moment, it ranks right up there in the top. I mean you have a top 10 p4p, some would argue the hardest puncher p4p in history hitting a guy as hard as he possibly can, directly on the chin. I'm amazed Duran came to his senses so fast, he was moving his head around only a second or two after falling down, clearly dazed, but awake. I give serious credit to his chin for that, because that was an absolutely devastating shot.
