Its the fighter who makes the title, not the other way around. Pacquiao just won the WBO title off Bradley.
Still as you note Hopkins had lost 2 of his last 4 but fail to note that, that was at MW where he was the stronger fighter down the stretch and not at LHW where he has begun his new phase of his career and was beaten by Calzaghe sandwiched betweem arguably his best wins of Tarver, Wright and Pavlik, which shows also how the new weight may have been good for Hopkins if he was losing to Taylor but then able to beat a fighter Taylor drew with and beat a fighter who twice beat Taylor, but at the new weight he was beating those fighters and thats when Calzaghe beat him. At one time he had only been beaten by Calzaghe on a LHW list that had, Tarver, Wright, Pavlik, Jones, Pascal twice and Dawson

Every Bernard Hopkins victory just shows why Calzaghe was afraid of getting beat again for the second time by the executioner.

If anything this is doing Calzaghe a disservice by making his fans look desperate to boost his resume by talking about what a guy damn near 50 is doing now.

I mean Calzaghe is a HOFer, two division champ, 20+ title defenses, shouldn't his achievements speak for themselves?

Tyson fans didn't celebrate when Holmes beat Mercer and fought McCall close, Lewis fans didn't celebrate when Holyfield nearly won a title at age 47 or when Vitali kept winning all those title fights.

Calzaghe never beat an elite boxer in his life (including his clear loss to Hopkins) that was within 5 years of their prime. And nice try if you are going to list B-level Kessler as elite

When Hopkins finished with Shumenov, he received a standing ovation from the entire house. Now that's the kind of respect that true legends get.

i love how this quote is made every time hopkins wins now. i guess taylor, dawson and pascal (draw) need to be included with the all-time greats as well.

bhop's record since he turned 40 is 10-4-1 & 1 NC. what he's doing is amazing but lack of talent in the division helps him out as well. the only hall of famer he fought is calzaghe and that's just because of where he's from. if joe was from indonesia (john) we wouldn't be listing him here. beibut looked horrible last night.

    That's not a good comparison.

-What happened to Taylor after he fought Hopkins twice? He managed to go 6-4-1 with 3 of those losses ending in brutal KO fashion. Props for beating Nard twice, but that was also attributed to Nard getting older and it was tougher for him to make 160......hence him moving up to LHW and becoming champion.

    - Dawson wound up getting raped by Ward and Stevenson in brutal fashion and will probably never fight for the title again.

    - Pascal is a very good fighter, he was lucky to get a Draw in the 1st Hopkins fight and lost in the rematch. He is 3-0 since the Hopkins fight and will get a title shot sometime soon.

    - Calzaghe retired soon after, undefeated, champ at 2 weight classes, and beat fighters like Hopkins, RJJ (old), Kessler, Lacy, Bika, etc. Stop hating.
