Seems like a lot of our British fighters I am afraid, very brave but his only defense is a high guard. I have yet to see him use any lateral movement. Dont want him to fight on much longer as he takes shots so solidly.
The problem with Murray is the courage that served him so well is also his achilles heel. It put him in with a far heavier Rios for far too long - I really do dislike that cheat for a host of different reasons - and cost him a fight he was winning against Crolla because he had no alternative other than to plough forward. Had he been with a different trainer throughout his career who knows what he might have achieved.
'You're a man John, a fighting man, a proud fighting man' etc. His gameplan was for all to see and he had to fully commit for it to work... it didn't but could off... No point his corner telling him to start boxing halfway through after he had expelled so much energy tearing into him, he had to wait for the answers of the questions he had asked crolla.
Murray still has a lot to offer domestically and the LW division is stacked at the minute, so there is decent fights out there for him. He could carry on and he would get some decent scalps on his record, but should he?? I'm not so sure. He was out for 2 years, from what I've been led to believe he didn't exactly treat his body like a temple in that time. He's rarely in a poor fight, but same token he also takes a lot of shots in these fights. People can bang on about the brain scan, I don't know the in's and out's of it but at the end of the day he was passed fit by the BBBOC and they are strict, so don't think there's too much to worry about there. The balls in Murrays court, in my opinion he doesn't have anything to prove. He's one tough ******* who's won the British & European titles, but fell short at world level which there's no shame + has been involved in two **** hot domestic dust ups with Mitchell & now Crolla. 29 years old now, been in some good scraps.. should he choose to go on there's no doubt he'll be involved in other good fights but like I said, he's got nothing to prove.
Its almost the kind of fight Id be ashamed of watching. Almost. But its potentially the best fight out there in GB. Thing is,John will need a rest and Scott probably needs a warm up. Could well be the end of the line for the loser. Any news on Scott carrying on,Ryan??
Scott was waiting on a decision from the BBB of C, but apparently there's been some kind of problem and now he's back to square one waiting on word from the Scottish Area Council. That's the word on the street anyway Ted.
It would indeed, both are similar In as they are always on front foot, high pressure, and give it there all every time. That's were similarities end in ring, as Scott has world class footwork and defence, and boxing brain and as these are Murrays weaknesses I think Scott would finish him badly. Don't get me wrong I like Murray too, but not in Scotts league
Thanks Ryan. To Dodgypie,Id say that I rate Walsh. He's a decent young boxer, not out of place with the best in the country. Plus there wasn't a great deal in the fight. I was amazed at Harrisons performance after a long time out at that level. As said,he would need a warm up,possibly two. Couldn't really see this fight happening though.
I agree Scott's better all round, but although he's far from finished he is no spring chicken anymore and Murray is one hard *******, then again so is Scott right enough I agree with Ted though Murray needs a rest and Harrison could be doing with a tune up bout first, but don't get me wrong the both of them would take it straight away with decent notice. It would be a belter of a fight. Lets hope Scott gets his licence back soon.
I agree it would be a belter, really would. Problem is Scotts age, he has not got time to have a couple of tune up fights to fight the John Murrays of this world, he needs to fight the John Murrays of this world as tune up fights as he chases a shot at a world title. Remember its about levels, John Murray, Kevin Mitchells of these world as much as I like watching them and respect them come up very short at world level, Scott Harrison never did. And as for the record rusty and old Scott Harrison with 12 weeks notice would knock John Murray out, as he was several levels above John Murray.
Thats fair enough. I watched it on TV at the time and thought he gave a good showing but Walsh shaded it, I never gave it a second viewing but will do now if its floating about. I really hope he can make some sort of impact again, he's what got me into boxing when I was a wee kid. I'd like to see him fight Scotty Cardle on a Matchroom card....doubt Hearn would be keen on that though.
Yea I like Walsh too. What frustrated me watching that is that the Scott from a few years ago would have demolished him. I really think if he allowed himself a few more tune ups he'd have taken Walsh convincingly....but suppose he's not in a position to take his time. Be great to see him back on track and start challenging even for domestic honours. But I do think John Murray would be a step to far at this stage......would love it if I was proved wrong in the future though!
Retire IMO. He poured it all out on Saturday night and for me bar earning a few quid fighting the other guys domestically he's only going to ship more damage on a already damaged machine. He's training fighters now he can be very proud of his career it's a shame it wasn't meant to be in terms of a world title.
