Worst Commentator in GB & IRE???

I think bashing Duke is the popular thing to do. Let's face it, you don't need a commentator to know whats going on in the fight so its good when they can make you laugh. He made the Audrey=Skelton/Williams(1) fights more entertaining than they were.

Johnny Nelson sounds as if he's trying to gargle whisky at the same time as commentate with all his "WWWWAAAAAAARRRRRGHHHH!!!!! WWWWOOOOOORRRRRAAAHHAHHAHA!!!" nonsense.

Gary Jacobs sounded pissed off at having to be there when he was co-commentator for Setanta not so long ago.

 

I think Ian Darke has to be the best commentator of them all, very informative, and knows his game - he is also very good on the football too.

John Rawling is a good commentator, but sometimes doesn't appear to have a good grasp of his microphone - can appear to be right in your front room, or talking through a soundproofed wall!

In terms of co-commentators, I think McCrory is the best because of his enthusiasm and know how, Johnny Nelson is OK but doesn't have a clue how to score a fight, and whilst Jim Watt is the best scorer but seems to lose his head at times.

I think all the team at Sky are excellent, such as Dave Clark and Adam Smith, whilst I don't know anyone who wants ITV to fail in boxing, Jim Rosenthal is a very good front man, whilst Barry McGuigan is obviously very knowledgable.

In terms of BBC coverage, Jim Neilly is a fair commentator, but the choice of co-commentators often leaves a lot to be desired. When covering the Calzaghe Kessler fight, they had Junior Witter, who seemed more interested in talking about himself than calling the action.

Richie Woodall is knowledgable, whilst ol'Buncey should just shut up and go away.

 

I like Woodhall - he's very fair and gives a good account of the action,

Duke is ok but one of his favourite lines is "he's boxing his head off" LOL!!

John Rawling always calls the boxers by the wrong names, thats a regular.

Can't stand Steve Bunce, his voice and his personality, he's a tit.

Jim Watt tends to run a lot of british boxers down when they are fighting i tend to find

Good point about Jim Watt - I missed that totally.

Ricky Hatton has been past so many times I wonder how the hell he even gets through a training session - yet some kid with half a dozen fights is set to be our answer to Sugar Ray Leonard!

 

No way is Duke McKenzie the worst, he can be utterly off in his own planet sometimes but other times he's fine and the comedy alone is worth it.

Much like the over-excitable chaps on Radio Five Live, Rawlings tends to make every punch the British fighter takes sound like utter death...even jabs.

I first heard Lewis-Vitali on the radio, and they made it sound like Vitali had literally torn off both of Lewis's arms and was beating him over the head with them. When I actually got to see the footage of the fight, while bloody and hard-hitting, it couldn't compare to the Bloodsport-esque destruction suggested by the radio commentators.

There's being dramatic, and then there's just over-stating things a little!

 

Barry McGuigan's ringside appearances on ITV's Khan bills leave me wanting to turn the volume down when he comes on.

I practically know what he is going to say anyway with his pro-Khan comments.

He has really gone down in my estimation.

 

Jim Watt by a country mile.Many a time Ive sat down looking forward to watching a good fight and that whiny depressing **** has put me on such a downer that I contemplate switching over.Any one would think he was Rocky Marciano and Muhammad Ali rolled into one the way he puts fighters down.

 

They made Hamed-Medina sound like the thriller in manilla.

 

There was a Junior Witter fight as well not that long ago that was particularly outstanding...just a total jabfest but it sounded so exciting...gonna have to check that up on Boxrec a second.

EDIT - Yeah, it was the DeMarcus Corley fight. As said with Rawlings, every odd hook Corley was able to land, the Five Live guys made them sound awesome wheras it was really a fairly quiet night's work for Witter.

That was a shocking fight - I fell asleep watching it!

 

I can't imagine what it would've been like if Five Live had been covering Hagler - Hearns...they would've all spontaneously combusted.
