Just read that Belmontes beat Figueroa 5 times in the Amateurs. Obviously Figueroa is doing better in the pros at 22-0 and Belmontes 19-3 but now im very interested to check out this fight. It's Showtime!! :bbb:bbb

Who you siding with? You think Belmontes has his number or we seeing some retribution Cotto vs Pinto style?(Pinto beat Cotto in the ams)

Im going with Figueroa but i think it could be a damn good fight. with Belmontes only having 5 KO's then that means he's a pre boxer. Figueroa boxes but likes to swing for homeruns which could get him in trouble.

everybody was saying this card is weak and GB made a bunch of mismatches but they had to know that belmotes beat him 5 times and still made the match. Juddos to them and us boxing fans

Yep. Omar is a champ now and if he not ready for Belmontes then he not ready for some world class savvy technicians. Not all opponents will take stand in front of him like Arakawa did. Linares must be salivating like a hungry wolf waiting for his crack at Figueroa I bet.

At the weigh-in, Belmontes was acting hard-core during the face off and Figueroa dismantled him with a smile:lol:

Panterito says that when they fought in ammies he was always the smaller guy, which isn't the case anymore.

Styles make fights. Belmontes may just have Figueroa's number.

Yes, that one is an interesting stat.

Also American fans might under appreciate Jerrys win v. Will Tomlinson as well. Say what you want about WIll, but he was trained up, undefeated and in prime position to make his American debut. For a journeyman to take that victory shows he has some ability to take the win, mixed with his style he might cause a few problems against Omar, who is at the end of the day is just another slugger albeit more advanced.

ON the other side of the coin, Figueroa might show up with that bit of extra will power. To make right the defeats in his amatuer career. Seeing these two fight in this scenerio is pretty interesting IMO

Two Texas Boys going at it for the World Title. They are from two neighboring regions that have developed a rivalry in sports. Bellmontes Corpus Christi Coastal bend and Figueroa from The Rio Grande valley.

Man that was a close fight! Belmontes had to throw just a little bit more...
