If I caught my opponent trying to pull a Resto, I'd be very skeptical as well

It's blatantly obvious that Maidana and his camp tried to pull something funny in desperation of winning this fight.

Maidana tried on those blue gloves before the selection and as a professional for this many years, he should have realized the lack of padding when he put them on. Even Leonard Ellerbe, someone who doesn't box professionally noticed it when he picked up those gloves.

That was exactly why those gloves weren't shrink-wrapped. 100% they were broken in, 100% it had 0 padding.

Fortunately, the #1 advisor in the business Leonard Ellerbe realized this and quickly informed Floyd/Mayweather Promotions/Nevada State Athletic Commission that the padding was inadequate.

Result: Those blue gloves were DENIED by the athletic commission.

I have a feeling they will try to pull more shady **** from here on out, maybe combine the wraps with plaster of paris or something but I'm sure Leonard Ellerbe/Floyd will keep tabs on them on everything they do until the fight is over.

If I was Floyd, I'd also make them use the gloves I deem fair. That's what the Maidana camp deserves for trying to pull something shady.

    Wait, wait...

    Then...

Has it been established that the blue gloves in question arrived unwrapped? I know there's been some confusion there. Couldn't it simply be they were unwrapped when he tried them on? After all, you can see Floyd's gloves unwrapped on the table.

He tried them on before the actual SELECTION of the gloves in the MGM locker room.

So yes, it went in the official selection process unwrapped.

The Everlast maker let Maidana put them on.

I wonder if the same process went down with Mayweather and Grant.

The next big question I have is whether the gloves were wrapped when the Everlast maker brought the gloves to Maidana in the locker room. If so, the intentional cheating notion doesn't make sense to me for two reasons:

    1. What could Maidana's people do to those gloves in that timeframe without blatant signs of tampering (e.g., a stitched tear inside the glove)?

    2. IF Maidana's people could do something to the gloves in that quick of a timeframe with no signs of tampering, why wouldn't they just wait until the night of the fight after the gloves were already approved?

    1. No one knows, 0 video footage.

Big chance is that those gloves came out of his personal bag and he gave it to Maidana to try out before the selection process.

    2. Remove the padding, that's what they did. It's obvious

    3. Because the gloves are presented to them 1 hour before the fight happens, for them to put on after the wraps. And there is video surveilance in the room, they would be dumb to try something like that with the cameras watching. There are also the MGM grand guards/officials/someone designated from the other team in the room, they wouldn't have a chance.

My question is more how they could remove padding while in the locker room in such a short period of time without any blatant signs of cutting into the glove in some way to get to the padding. This assumes Everlast had no intentional wrongdoing (no reason to think otherwise) and that the gloves were ok when given to Maidana.

Surely they weren't sitting unsupervised with the gloves for hours, right? If they did this in a short window, I don't see why they wouldn't be able to do whatever they did during warmups or out of camera's view (e.g., "Hey everyone, let's huddle up before we go out to fight.").

The gloves were presented to Maidana before the selection process, that much is agreeable here as there is footage.

Who is to say it was done in the locker room?

All I said was that it was presented to him in a very worrisome manner.

Every time Floyd fights, they line multiple pairs of gloves for each fighter to choose from.

It's happened with Cotto, Ortiz, Guerrero, Canelo. All shrink wrapped, all virgin gloves.

Looking at the gloves, you can clearly see that it's been either, looks like wrinkly worn pair of gloves

    1. Used before
    2. Tampered with by a 3rd party.

The gloves had absolutely no padding in the front, it was back-padded.

Maybe it was Everlast, maybe the trainer, but someone must have done something. I'm not pointing any fingers here, but those gloves should be done away with.
