Re-watched last night's fight online with the "unbiased" British commentary...

Making someone miss is good, but it doesn't score points. I mean if a guy went a whole round without throwing a punch and not getting hit because of his defensive genius, while the other guy swung and hit air, then guess what? The guy who hit air wins the round

 

The commentary on Box Nation, the British network, was ridiculously biased in Mayweather's favour. That Welsh guy always rides Mayweather's dick.

That extreme example doesn't nearly apply to a realistic viewing of Mayweather/Maidana.

In the amateurs fights that cannot be separated even on count back are judged on Lead, Style, Defense so if one boxer has been leading more and is the aggressor they win. If they have both been leading just as much it goes to style who has the better technique etc. if the judges feel that they both have equally good technique it then and only then goes to defense.

I like that scoring method and use it to pick close rounds when I am watching the pros.

 

Sure it does. There were long stretches where Mayweather didn't throw **** and certainly didn't score any points in those gaps where he was getting bullied by Maidana.

 

Yeah.I've only seen the box nation broadcast and they where terribly biased towards Mayweather.

I scored it 7-5 Mayweather, so imo the right guy won, but their commentary was awful.

All the poster OP here is admitting to is that he is heavily swayed by the bias of the commentary either way.

it depends really its more skillful to make someone miss,
than it is to stand and punch air.
the former ability can save your life in certain situations.

however if the agressor lands any clean shots, not shoulders or forearms or back, then he wins.

 

I too am a big believer in clean punching and effective aggression. There's an important distinction though.

Maidana didn't always drive his punches home, but part of what the British commentary missed was how, during his charges, he stopped Mayweather from throwing. In those moments, clean digs or not, Marcus was making it his fight. That counts for something.

Overall, Mayweather was the winner, close but clear. 9-3 is too severe.

Floyd just needs to learn the pro game a bit more. Maidana gave him a welcome to the big leagues, maybe with a bit more experience Floyd can do something when he's being fouled. He got mugged, at least he cried to the ref (that's a pro trick apparently).
