He didn't use the best tactics and he is pretty old for a boxer. Maidana also fought well and was bigger and stronger.

I disagree that Maidana was stronger. Floyd willingly went to the ropes and landed the sharper, harder punches that slowed Maidana, especially the early deposits to the body. Floyd handled all that Maidana could throw without losing pace, a lot of which was not exactly ring legal, whilst Maidana was affected.

And was past his best at 37. If you think Hopkins was still Prime at 37 you're crazy. He was still good even great but he was not prime. Hopkins is exceptional fighter who's a student of the game, his mind is still prime if not better he's beating these young guys with boxing mind more than with his boxing body.

Maidana did a good job of punchung his way in, not stopping until they were nose to nose, then even punching in a clinch.

It smothered the distance where most fighters would throw 1, 2 or 3 punch combos then get spectacularly countered. Maidana at times got off first too.

His activity and distance control made him very competitive.

He should've just stayed off the ropes.

Just stay in the center of the ring and fight at a distance. He should've used his lateral movement and just side step Maidana every time he was anywhere near the ropes.

If he did that, it would've probably been a 10-2 type of fight. I'm so surprised he decided to stay on the ropes for as long as he did. It was a very stupid strategy for the 1st 6 rounds.

So what you are really asking is why didn't Floyd win 12 rounds to none?

well then his ass needs to retire or face a loss. bernard hopkins is still fighting at a very high level and is 49 yrs old.

6 months ago may put on a clinic on a 23 year old, he should retire and save his 0, if not i don't want to hear the excuses that he is too old. he, like vlad and vitali, has never beaten an elite fighter in their prime.

Mayweather was so far from being sharp.
Cant be sure if it was because of Mayweather just taking Maidana lightly or just Maidana's style is difficult to defensive shell types.

When Mayweather said he would stand and trade with Maidana, my feeling was it would be a good entertaining fight. However, watching the fight, I did'nt think Mayweather was as aggressive fistically vs Maidana than he was vs Cotto, who I felt Mayweather did choose to trade with.

Imo, Mayweather pretty much followed the same plan he did vs Canelo, stand his ground but give angles and get in position to punch.
The pressure and weird angles from which Maidana punches prevented Mayweather from getting off as comfortable as he normally does.

I think it has to do with both, Mayweather was a little off, but more so Maidana's size and style gave him problems.

It was definitely the style that caused Floyd problems....because he wasn't expecting so much pressure from Marcos....Miadana never is that busy, but for Floyd he definitely added an extra gear that he got into early and never really let up. Floyd was sharp....he just never found his rhythm or got out of second gear because Marcos was already dictating the pace and distance right from jump. Floyd used angles and lateral movement to get some distance but Miadana was right on his chest.....Floyd would hold often to get the ref to step in and provide separation where Mayweather could find some success with his offense.

According to reports Pacquiao was going through a lot of personal **** in the lead up to his 3rd fight with Marquez. His infidelities had become public and his wife had filed for divorce the day before the fight.

Are you willing to give Manny Pacquiao the same kind of leeway for his poor performance against Marquez as you are for Mayweather against Maidana?

Maidana fought very well, Floyd had problems with his awkwardness and psycho style.

And yes, he is aging. He's 37, it's natural. He's been dominating his other opponents because he is a terrific fighter, and is in a weak era. That doesn't mean he hasn't been declining.
