Just read over at Boxrec that he is back boxing on May 17th and that Joe Gallagher will be his manager. Great to see him back in the ring after wasting the last 18 months or so, He had a great amateur career that ended in him winning the Gold Medal at the Commonwealth games but hasn't really capitalised on that achievement! I reckon he could probably do Super Middleweight and I would like to see him vs Kenny Anderson if Kenny gets back boxing after his ban, it was a match up everyone in the amateur set up wanted to see before Kenny turned pro and imo both their styles would make for a great match up! How do the people on here feel he would do against the current crop of British Super Middleweights?
I believe he hits harder than Groves, Froch, Degale but not ready for that lot. I think Callam Smith would beat him, however Johnson has the strength and style to beat the likes of Paul Smith, Tony Dodson etc. Kenny Anderson is an exceptional hard man when he is fit but Johnson has all the tools to beat him.
I know he is rated at Light Heavyweight but those fights have been on the day weigh ins! Imo he would try do Super Middle for title fights.
I understand your logic but if he is campaigning and Light Heavyweight he is not gonna just drop down to Super Middleweight for title fight as he would not be ranked. I think he should continue at Light Heavy as we don't have the strongest division here in Britain and he should be pushing for titles at this stage of his career but with the lay off he seems to have faded into the dust. Very good fighter who I believe has a great future in boxing if he gets himself into gear
He's far to big for SMW IMO he's tight at LHW but a very talented lad, I worked the corner on his debut and he can dig and has fast hands
Maybe he is struggling now mate but I remember working with him in the amateurs for the Scotland team and he made Light Heavy pretty easily and could eat plenty without having to worry about his weight but maybe he has matured into a big Light Heavy now because he would have been 24ish when I was away at tournaments with him? He really had all the tools as an amateur and boxed with a more professional style even then.
id agree with Billy Davie ive seen a few SnC videos hes posted on instagram and hes mass in terms of muscle looks like a bodybuilder and couldnt really see him doing SMW , Very talented lad and unsure of his circumstances contractually etc but i always got the impression hes of the same mould as Craig McEwan in terms of not really wanting it badly enough and looking for excuses more than anything but a huge talent none the less from what ive saw of him
Big talent, needs to get the ball rolling with his pro career... hopefully this will be the kick start of it
good news.. light heavyweight is weak domestically, should be fast tracked to a british title seeing as though hes wasted loads of time
He was out running other day with Paul and Callum Smith, and is at least 1 stone heavier than them just now, no chance he will fight at SM on May 17th unless he goes on an Ethiopian diet till then.
Haha, I didn't mean on the 17th May but for Title fights where it is a day before weigh in! Like I say maybe it's just that he has turned into a man and that he is too big now to make it.
