im a fan of both floyd and pac - and i really wish this catchweight sh** just stopped already

imo a catchweight fight shouldnt be for a belt, if you cant beat a champ at his weight then you dont deserve his belt

pac fighting martinez is brilliant, a catchweight maybe called for -however, dont expect to be called 9 weight world champion

it devalues the belt imo

 

I dont see the problem, as long as Manny fights him between 154.1-160 then he deserves the belt, obviously Martinez has offered to fight Manny at 154, where no title would be on the line.

 

Pacman should avoid this fight.

Martinez really packs a punch, especially those counterpunches of his.

They both have an unorthodox style. Martinez loves to keep his hands low and bait his opponents to come in on him. If Manny does his usual lunging in with his combination punching, he'll get tagged with shots he won't see coming.

JMM's counterpunching ability gave Pacman fits for 4 fights. Martinez has a pretty good shot of KO'ing Manny if this fight were to happen, unless Sergio is a shell of his former self.

 

Ill accept this fight if martinez beats cotto because then atleast pac is targeting a champ instead of his fight with marg

It all depends on the weight. Id want it absolutely no lower then 157

 

I just think the victory then comes with a disclaimer

if a man claims to be a champion, or takes another mans belt at a different weightclass, then fight him at the full weight class

if its just to see whos best, then fine - but dont claim to be 9 weight world champion while getting 2 champs to drain down to take their belts

and im a big pac fan as well.... i just know he wold have beaten margarito regardless, so why ask for the weight limit? puts a dampner on it

 

Don't even bother. It's a double standard in this forum.

FLoyd fought Marquez at 144 after a 2 year layoff and people cried foul even though JMM was the one who was lobbying for the fight and said he had no problems going up to WW to fight him. Why he didn't allow him to come in at the full 147 lb limit made no sense. Than Canelo's team lobbied for a fight at 150 lbs, FLoyd countered at 152 lbs and once again people cried foul.

I'm not a fan of CW's either, I wish titles weren't on the line in CW fights. But I can understand why champions wouldn't mind CW's if it allows them the opportunity to fight guys that are bigger stars than them in the sport.

In Martinez' situation, he's not a big MW and fought a good amount of his career at JMW. SO if he decides to fight Pacman at a CW, I'm ok with it as long as he doesn't drain himself for the fight.

But these CW's definitely taint the performances of the fighters. Ray Robinson didn't ask Maxim for a CW at LHW, Hearns and SRL didn't request CW's when they were fighting at SMW and LHW. I don't see why a great champ like Pacman should be doing this. If he wants the recognition of being an 8 or 9 division champion, fight the guys at the actual weight limits of the division. I don't give him much credit in the Oscar or Margarito fights because of these reasons.

It'd be a really interesting fight if it happened, but beating Martinez at 155 or something doesn't make Pacquaio the MW king.

If Pac fought Martinez at the full 160lb limit, that'd be a ballsy move but can't see it happening.

Bad thing about this talk of Mayweather/Pacquaio facing the Cotto/Martinez winner is that if it does happen, then where does it leave GGG?

I dont see a problem with a CW as long as both parties agree with it. Hopefully Sergio wont have to come down more then 2lbs. Pac's fight night weight will probably be between 150-158 any way, as sergio will be way over that so I think its fair. I hope he goes for canelo first at full 154 & then for sergio. Jumping 2 weight classes is really risky but give him mad props for doing it. Hope it happens.

Talk is cheap. The only middleweight Pacquiao or Mayweather is likely to actually fight is Cotto if he somehow gets a strap.
