Ariza: Floyd didn't have to fight that fight

For Ariza to say such a thing, considering that he helped prepare Floyd opponent is a big statement.

 

Floyd is not the type of guy that will eat rabbit punches and low blows to please anyone. Garcia came with a great game plan and Maidana delivered. He had pretty good jab that helped him cut off the ring. His footwork and balance were a lot better than before. All that surprised Floyd a bit in the beginning and Maidana gave him a fight for the first 6 rounds. Then Floyd adapted like a true champ and closed the show.

 

I heard that, and he also gave Floyd props on his chin. Floyd has good whiskers.

 

I think that he really likes attention so he will make big statements like that one in order to get it. I don't think that it is making his career any easier. I can't believe Garcia is going to like what he is saying,

Mosley revealed how good his chin really was, when he caught Floyd with that flush right hand twice. I think on that night everyone who had doubt was convinced that Floyd had a good chin.

 

Floyd was scared to engage. Floyd is only comfortable when he can track his opponents punches. Madainas were coming from all angles, Floyd had no choice until Madaina slowed in the later rounds.

This is why he fears Pac. Not only the angles of Pacs punches, but the speed (Madaina was slow) and power of those punches.

Maidana and Pacquiao punch nothing alike. Manny comes from far more conventional angles than Maidana's "chopping right hand." And Manny literally does not throw that punch. Manny doesn't come over the top and chop down like that.

Manny throws straighter punches than Maidana in general. Pacquiao is not a "looping" puncher.

The "angles" you see from Pacquiao is because of his foot speed and footwork, not because of his style of punching being similar to Maidana's.

 

Even if that's what Ariza felt, the man is a real piece of ****.

Does he realize that he trained the guy in the opposite corner.

Why do people let this guy train them?

Pacquaio can and does throw from every angle imaginable, but Pacquaio's punches are SHORTER and SHARPER than Maidanas.

Other than that, I agree with you about his footwork.

His footwork is absolutely integral to putting him in position to land punches and contributes to the punch itself.

In the old days, that style wasn't so uncommon. Dempsey used to fight like that as well.

 

Exactly. Pacquiao doesn't throw that "chopping" style punch. Not saying he "can't" throw it, but he doesn't. Not really part of his style.

Manny uses his superior foot speed to get a good punching angle and then he unloads with a salvo. Absolutely right.

 

what actually surprised me in the fight was how maidana took the punches from floyd. he never really retreated at all in the fight... whereas in previous big fights i've seen maidana retreating...even against broner and khan....and even a shot to **** old flabby one eyed MORALES
