    Both wrong. He was technically American. Everyone from Puerto Rico (which he was personally not, though his family originally was) is.

    Even if you reject that umbrella definition, he was then "Puerto Rican American" (which, since the above definition is technically correct, a redundant demonym). He was a born & bred Masshole, like me. :D
