Looking back at the Collazo Fight what has Amir Khan Proved?

I kind of agree Collazo is just outside the top 10 in the division regardless of what the rankings say. But it was a decent win for his first fight at welter.
I agree he's got to fight one of the names you mention excluding floyd to really make a statement.

I think genuinly he has a shot against floyd and pac. khan is a top fighter and as long as he does not get drawn into a toe to toe fight he can beat anyone on his day.

 

Whilst Collazo maybe isn't a great fight. He's an awkward customer, that even when beaten, tends not to be beaten by much and is always in the 'fight' - if losing the 'boxing' match

Khan mastered him. It's a great win for him and probably his career best performance (although not a career best victory). Not getting too carried away though.

 

A lot of people were saying his best was behind him so I think the win proves that it isn't.

Of those guys I think he has the best chance against Bradley (feather fisted), Marquez (might be past it, Bradley easily outboxed him) and Mayweather (don't think Khan would win but style-wise it's ok). The other guys would bring the power and intensity which would give Khan serious problems. I'm not saying he can't win, he beat Maidana after all, but he scraped through.

 

He was ranked 8 by the WBC and 2 by the WBA so that has to count for something.

It's unlikely that he'll fight Pac, Marquez or Bradley because they are with Top Rank.

I don't think Khan's management would go for the Thurman fight and GBP probably would want to wait a couple of years until Thurman builds his name and Khan rebuilds his so they can have a big PPV fight.

Floyd will probably rematch Maidana in September since Khan can't fight until November or December because of Ramadan. Hopefully he gets the Floyd match in May 15. Even if he loses it won't damage his name.

Porter is fighting Brook so the winner of that would be a good fight for Nov/Dec and for the IBF title. I think this one might happen and then Khan will hopefully get the recognition he deserves.

There isn't many fights that could realistically happen that Khan would get credit for even though he's fighting in one of the best divisions.

 

I was amazed at how Collazo kept his hands down pretty much the entire fight, eating Khans punches all night. Either Collazo is one tough mo fo, or Khan doesn't pack much power at WW.

 

Hardly anyone seems to be talking about this. Collazo's an excellent boxer. I find it hard to believe he was trying to win this fight. Even talking to his corner, hands down, whilst taking full blooded shots from Amir. I'm a true fan of Amir, no disrespect to him.

If Collazo picks up a decent fight next then I'll be convinced that fight was bull****.

 

The way Khan went about his job in this fight was an Khan who had it in his mind ''To win at all costs" this is the mind set Hunter has been working on with Khan. The way Khan was getting off and then moving away or tying him up (similar to Ward style) when Collazo got close frustrated him and Collazo basically could not get off.

So with the hands down notion and him not wanting to win is wrong, he COULD NOT WIN, that was the reality unless he KOed Khan or Khan badly gassed in the later rounds, some of the holding was Khan gassing and showing little moments of ring rust being out of the ring for 13 months.

I think it was a decent win in the context of Khan's debut at 147, and Khan was right it is hard to look good vs Collazo who is an awkward south paw fighter, Khan looked good and I think will he will look better in his 2nd outing at this weight and be more rounded in the ''Win at all costs" mindset which means pure boxing and not taking risks.

With this new style and more importantly mindset Khan can be very hard to beat, not many fighters will outpoint him but mainly look to KO him, this could now play into Khan hands because fighter from the offset will plan to KO him knowing there is little chance to outpoint this guy we have to hurt or KO him, and from Khan's view he has to make this new style more rounded and game so he can keep outpointing these guys. Khan should of always stuck to his boxing, but I guess he had to learn the hard way.

Khan should fight the winner of Porter vs Brook if that fight happens in Nov/Dec, that will give us a better reading of his progress under Hunter, but this win over Collazo was impressive but now he needs to remain focused and dedicated to this sport 100%.

 

What hype is there to believe, no ****er thinks he can beat any of the top guys and he gets ridiculed constantly for having a glass jaw which he has.

So give the ****er at least some respect because it's clear he is just behind the top guys but can beat some of the lesser guys like the Paulie's and Judah's etc. Come to think of it, he has a win over Maidana which is a decent fooking win looking at it now.

If Hunter can get him using that thick brain of his and he really starts thinking in there then I wouldn't put it past him to cause an upset against someone who's supposed to do a number over him. Don't know who like but I wouldn't be surprised if it happened.

 

Shame. If he had a good chin I think he would be a nightmare for anyone around these weight classes including pac/floyd. Nobody beat collazo they way khan did. I can't remember him losing by such a wide margin on the cards.

 

Don't know if he actually proved anything , but i think he showed that the move up in weight definetly suits him , he did'nt lose his speed , i think you will find he takes a punch a bit better , and when he settles his feet he'll hit harder

 

Not meaning to be an *******, but it's 'proven'.
I don't think he's proven much on the basis of this fight. He has shown loads of potential in the past and I already knew what skills he has, but still I'm convinced about his flaws.

 

He proved have can beat a guy who hasn't beat anyone of great significance in years. Any of those fighters beat him. That's why he'll more than likely be spoon fed another easy opponent.
