How long has Ward been at 168? How long was Hopkins at 160?

Maybe Ward should offer GGG as much as he would have got to fight Chavez Jr then we'll know if he's avoiding him. There is no rush anyway, GGG is older than Ward so even if GGG stays at 160 for another couple of years, he can still fight Ward when he does move up.

GGG seems just as ambitious as Ward. Like Ward, he wants to clear out his division but is not in a huge rush to move up. He will consider moving up for the right fight at the right price.

 

Ask Ward. He seems to want to fight him too.

Obviously GGGs a good fighter, but the gulf between Matt Macklin and Andre Ward could swallow continents - naturally a couple of second tier fights at 168 makes sense (specially if they're as rich as a Jr or Kessler fight) - why would anyone think he's ready for Ward before a single fight at SMW?

You are of course correct tho in that Maravilla hasn't been avoiding GGG, and I'm completely confident that Sergio will fight Golovkin if the Cotto fight shows that he still has the physical tools to compete at at the top level.

That's what a fighter is supposed to do, prove himself in his own division first. You don't try to fight the best in the division above before you've even fought the best in your own division.

Yeah he's not gonna turn down a huge payday. I'm sure Ward would be willing to go to 175 for Chavez Jr. Maybe if Ward offered GGG the kind of money he could make against Chavez Jr, GGG would fight him at 168 too?

So you criticize GGG for his quality of opposition but think it's ok for Ward (p4p #2) to fight someone (GGG) who is smaller than him and hasn't fought anyone at 160 never mind 168. :think

 

Gotta disagree with you here. There's a big difference in talent between 160 and 168. I personally think most if not all of the top 5 guys at 168 beat Golovkin...

Once again ward fans seem to think GGG needs to be the one to make all of the sacrifices in order to have the honour of fighting him. I personally think ward needs to move to 175 and fight kovalev if he really needs a challenge. This is a no win for GGG. Move up and get paid less to fight ward when a ppv match with Martinez or cotto awaits him in the near future. No brainer here folks. Money talks in boxing, and ward isn't much of a draw. Nothing against ward, who I think is an amazing fighter, but he just doesn't pay the bills. Also, the Chavez argument is weak. A Chavez fight was gonna pay out huge and win lose or draw, each fighter would come out with a bigger fan base after an all out rumble. Ward on the other hand is more for the purest boxing fan, not much of a crowd pleaser otherwise. This is coming from a ward fan btw.
