He is a natural Welter. All I was saying is that it didn't look as obvious in the Maidana fight as it did with Gatti and Dorin. People overreact too much and act like I am insulting Mayweather.
Some of you need to go back to page 2 of this thread and look at the video bbchump11 posted, and you have the answer to this question. The video says it all.
Yeah you can to some extent. When Showtime reported that Matthysse outweighed Peterson I think it was, many people eyeballed that as being incorrect as it was later revealed to be... I read clothes weigh 2.5 - 3 lbs. So let us say it was more like 14 lbs. Does he look that better?
Fine, to some extent you can. For example, I can tell Valuev weighs more than Rigondeaux by sight but with scenarios like Mayweather/Maidana the vaaast majority of people cannot accurately determine the difference in weight between them just by watching them in the ring on tv. I wouldn't be at all surprised if Maidana did weigh 17 or 18lb more than Floyd. I also wouldn't be surprised if Floyd weighed 5lb more than Maidana, it's hard to tell. People may have noticed the Matthysse/Peterson weights were wrong but but that's a rare case. People often look lighter or heavier than they are so for the most part people cannot accurately gauge weight with any real degree of detail just by looking.
I'll also point out that Maidana is a slow, plodding, heavy handed guy and Floyd is a quick, fleet footed, light hitting guy. To me that's a bit of a sign that maybe Floyd is a naturally lighter build and Maidana is a naturally heavier build.
I can usually just look at the tv and tell you what weight the fight is being held at. I might be off by one weight class which represents 7-8 lbs. Maybe I should be one of those weight guessers at the circus.
Ok, so that accounts for about 4 lbs? Unless he makes a habit of wearing jackboots, leather jacket and a helmet
