Get real. Cotto is nearly finished. He put on a brave display against Pacquiao and against Money after the beating by the hands of Tony Margarito. How can he smash Martinez if he lost to Trout? Cotto is just fighting on to pay the bills... He was a real hungry fighter when he was a light welter and stepped up to beat Quintana, fought Zab and Shane no doubts about it but now? He's experienced, has power and only above average in my opinion.

Both are damaged good at this point though I can safely say that Martinez is more damaged with his inactivity and injuries. Cotto has a solid chance in this fight.

Cotto hasn't beaten another A level fighter in his career - unless martinez is injured i think he wins. Too fast, too awkward and hits harder than he is given credit for

Cotto hasnt been the same as hes gone up in weight and his right hand isnt even his best punch. If Martinez can stand up to JCC jnr he cant stand up to cotto

If Cotto wins this one, expect the big names of boxing to try and challenge him..

I only remember a light-welter at 5'7'' tall, actually once a lightweight, to have won at welter ( against SRL), super-welter (against Davey Moore), and middleweight after na unseccesful attempt at Marvin Hagler's (against Iran Barkley) and at age 37. That was Roberto "Hands of Stone" Duran. These fighters don't come back in a short space of time like from 1989 to 2014. And even if they came back it would be either Floyd Mayweather or Manny Pacquiao against someone like Peter Quillin, not against Sergio Maravilla Martinez, for F***sake!

I agree that Martinez is over rated but he is the naturally bigger man and Cotto isn't exactly prime either. Cotto could beat him down though because Sergio is past his best too, perhaps more so than Miguel.

I said this in another thread. All eyes will be on June 7th. Canelo, GGG, Floyd, Pacman... everyone will be sniffing around, depending on how the fight goes. Low risk, Big money fight.

I think it will be a good fight. I question how a near 40 year old Sergio will come off a major injury. I honestly don't think Sergio is all that sure of himself and is why he picked a small Cotto as a measuring stick. He still has skills, just not sure if the old body will hold up.

Seriously, why on earth would you bring Floyd into a topic that has nothing to do with him? Grow up and discuss boxing not related to your bizarre, borderline fetishistic obsessions.

That said (and back to the topic): I can't see Cotto winning this. I think he'll have his moments and if Sergio has slowed down significantly he might have a more than a few moments (digging left to the body and whatnot). But it's hard to see him 'smashing' Martinez.

martinez is faster and more powerful, i see this fight playing out similarly to the cintron vs. martinez fight, cotto gets knocked out in the mid rounds.

Martinez will go down as a ATG. Lets hope he gets to Mayweather/Pacman soon

I think Cotto is a better technical fighter. Martinez will have to fight perfectly.

    Why? Because he KO'd Delvin???

Jeez. Unless Martinez has absolutely nothing left, he beats Cotto up

Interesting fight, as a Cotto fan (and Martinez fan)

I think Sergio will pull it off, if hes near 100%.

Sergio handled the much larger Chavez Jnr, i think he can handle Cottos pressure. Also Martinez is a southpaw and Cottos record against southpaws isnt too good, Pacqiauo, Trout etc.

I see Martinez using his speed to get in and out and breaking Cotto down slowly bit by bit.

But deep down, i hope Cotto wins because i want Cotto-Canelo, Martinez-Canelo wouldnt be too bad either
