Rewatching Groves vs Froch

As much as I can recall, I would have given Froch 3 rounds with Groves dominating the first half of the fight. I can't see a massive difference from Froch's gameplan apart from covering up more in the early rounds and reverting to some close up mauling. Even with Groves dominating the first half, Froch was doing plenty of good work, with loads of bludgeoning blows to Groves that was slowly sapping his energy.

It will be interesting to see how the fight pans out should Froch take a more conservative Abraham's root. But I can't see Groves not getting through. One thing is for certain, this won't be a boring one paced fight. We will see many changes over the course of the fight.

 

I'll be honest, if Froch fights in the same way as he did in the 1st, GG will beat him. GG has been working hard on his fitness this time and will try to pace himself better.

For Froch to win he has to improve on his jab, go to the body from the start, cover up a bit more and set a pace GG is uncomfortable with.

I believe Froch will fight a different fight this time round and KO GG in round 8.

In his Abrahams fight where he boxed behind the jab and take little risk. I reckon he will try and do this after tasting Groves power and speed in the first half of the fight. Groves on the other hand will have a real go again after the kind of success he got in the first.

 

Do you mean first round or first fight? Because, let's be totally honest here, Carl's head barely moved from Georgie's best shots after that flash knockdown.

Georgie will be crying into his pie n mash on Sunday morning.

I'm right though, aren't I? in the 6th he lands a 4 punch combo, all flush, carl just shakes his head and walks him down.

Georgie doesn't have the power or the stamina to cope with the Cobra.

There seems to be some seriously sensitive depressed negative little Froch haters in the British forum, and it is clouding their judgement.

Which is strange because he is the best UK fighter for years and is loved in the USA, just not in the UK for some reason

I was miffed at the "flash knockdown" comment. Hardly a flash KD now, was it.

Groves clearly hurt Froch a number of times during the fight causing Froch to hold or disengage from exchanges, these are facts.

Groves punches were less effective later on as he started to tire and Froch can certainly take punishment from the best in the division.

 

He no doubt hurt him, but the 1st round KO was special near perfect punch. Froch did very well to swallow all the other shots and keep moving forward. Most fighters would have gone down in round 6, but Froch kept coming forward

 

Indeed. I'm not much of a Froch fan but I can only admire his durability & fighting spirit. :good

 

Silly to call it a flash knockdown. Firstly, it clearly wasn't! Secondly, saying so just denigrates Froch's performance in the rest of the fight.

That said, bar for that knockdown, what does Groves do that really rocks Froch? Watch the 6th round again and see the nice combination that Groves puts in about halfway through it. It has two very big right hands and a few more good punches. Watts says he completely outfought Froch in that burst and it's one of the few times in the broadcast I agree with him. It hurts Froch but at the end of it he walks away on steady legs and resets his guard.

Compare to the bit at the end of the round where Froch lands a couple against Groves when he drops his gloves. Nowhere near the same number or quality of punches that Groves landed earlier but Groves can't take them the same and looks knackered after the clinch and worse at the bell.

Groves took the round easily but just doesn't have the punch resistance and that's going to be the difference again.

 

Some good points and this is pretty much as I see it, but Carl can't afford to keep taking the amount of right hands he did in the first fight.

 

Faack sake Froch got caught COLD , its happenned to many before and it will happen to many more ,

The biggest issue , is Geaorge threw the best punch of his life , knocked him down , i would even suggest hurt him ,,
