1988 Tyson vs 1964 C Clay

I don't know what kind of trash they talked back in 1965, I wasn't around BUT im sure they didn't ask each other out to dinner, or go have a beer after the fight im sure there was some profane language and references about mom...

That version of Tyson may be too much for that version of Ali and it could be an ugly lesson

 

This is a joke, how can anyone say Tyson? Watch the Tillis fight ffs. Also it's not height and reach that beat Tyson it's guys that know how to use it, that means having great timing and accuracy which Clay in 1964 had. Not to mention being the fastest, best moving boxer ever. Most importantly is the mental aspect of it, Clay/Ali was at his cruelest at this time when it came to trash talk. He'd be making fun of his voice and everything else that he could, Tyson would already be beaten and possibly crying before the fight.

Floyd Patterson in 1965 was stopped in 12 rounds against Ali, I think Tyson who's style was in some ways similar to Patterson but had that explosive punching power would have troubled Ali.

 

Maybe but then this is also the Tyson of 1988. Wouldn't that Tyson been a better fighter than the younger one that fought Tillis? (and Tyson did actually still win the Tillis fight too)

Its like saying look at the younger Ali who got knocked down and possibly on the verge of a stoppage if the bell had not rang then, by Henry Cooper in 63'. As hard a puncher as the fairly small Cooper was, I don't think anyone could compare his power with the 1988 version of Tyson.

 

1988 Tyson is one of the great single years a heavyweight has ever had. Tyson was at his absolute peak and as champion he fought 3 times in that calender year.

Tyson took apart two hall of famers, who incidentally were never stopped by anyone else in their entire career. He also took down a very talented contender in Tubbs, even if he was a career underachiever. 3 very good fighters who combined couldn't last 7 full rounds.
In contrast Clay/Ali fought only once in 1964 taking out an old and diminished Liston. Clay himself was coming off a fight with Henry the previous yr where he was dropped hard and should have been given a DQ for receiving smelling salts in between rounds.
Now take into account the fighters styles. This fight is a terrible match up for Clay. Tyson has both the foot and hand speed to close the distance on Clay and to hurt him. Tyson physically mature already and basically a stronger and faster hybrid of Patterson and Frazier would make this a very ugly night for Clay.
I actually think the older Ali has the best chance against Tyson with his ability to tie up Tyson, to pace the fight and get out of the early rounds and to use his masterful psychological warfare to break down Tyson's weak psyche. The older Ali also rounded into his body giving him more mass and a better base to absorb the bombs he would be taking from Iron Mike.
