Why is steroid abuse swept under the carpet? It is an absolute disgrace.

The ******s are the people who believe in fairies, and believe that all athletes are taking BANNED substances (there is no such thing as 'Performance enhancing drugs, WADA has a list of prohibited substances - no science or method behind it). It's believing in something you can have no idea about. I work as an S+C coach for a professional team and I know for certain none of the players are taking anything illegal.

Many scientists would disagree with you. (and by scientists I mean a real scientists, like Kristian Gundersen, not a sports "scientist")

 For a sports related issue wouldn't you want a sports scientist? Gunderson is a general physiologist, not a sports physiologist. How is sports science not real science? :huh Peer-reviewed, double blind, longitudinal studies are scientific studies regardless of who is doing it and what their career is. And as far as I'm aware he hasn't published anything notable related to this issue. Care to educate me? Show me all this scientific research that I've somehow completely missed despite comprehensively researching the topic... I'll be waiting :thumbsup

Sports scientists are just people who did what is basically the PE classes you do at school but carried on at University (usually because they are too thick to do a real degree), they are cretins and a laughing stock to the scientific community. No doubt you have read much research, whether or not you understand though it is a different matter.

PED's work, this is a fact.

Just because their v02 max isnt that high, doesn't mean that increasing it wont help their performance. Think about it logically, increasing stamina helps you fight better, therefore using EPO will boost your performance. Also their v02max isn't as high as a cyclists because they're generally carrying more muscle mass than cyclists, in particular type 2 fibres which would be detrimental to your v02max in some respects. Therefore boxers are fantastic athletes in terms of combing strength, speed AND endurance and physical attributes such as v02 max and strength are associated with increased performance as this study shows: Guidetti et al 2002.

It took me 5 secs to find this study using trained runners and EPO who saw a 6% improvement in performance http://www.plosone.org/article/info:doi/10.1371/journal.pone.0056151. That is much more than nearly any supplement and illustrates why athletes use drugs. For more studies on drugs in sport have a read of this page http://www.sportsscientists.com/2007/11/the-effect-of-epo-on-performance/.In comparison to creatine which is generally accepted as the most effective supplement which shows very small increases in performance usually less than 1% as demonstrated by this study http://europepmc.org/abstract/MED/8742865.

To suggest that athletes only use drugs for cultural reasons is ridiculous. If you do work for a sports team i suggest you spend time educating yourself on this topic.
