GGG and Martinez, A Tale of two Fighters.

    All this talk of Sergio ducking GGG, check this out.

    Sergio did not have an extensive amateur career, Dibella was the only guy

    to take a chance on him, when he was fighting in obscurity in Spain. He

    came here with little opportunity and fought anyone and everyone he

    could. He was ducked at 154 and although he was willing to go to 147 and

    challenge anyone there, he was again ducked and dodged . He was robbed

    on numerous occasions, He knocked out Cintron and had to settle for a

    draw. He took the Williams fight on short notice at a weight-class greater

    than the one he actually belonged, yet didn't ***** and again was robbed.

    He eventually broke through because he has talent, balls and took chances,

    he was handed nothing. They set up Martinez to get KTFO by Pavlik, again

    Sergio broke through. He doesn't owe anyone ****. Maybe GGG should

    take a page out of that Martinez book and take his ass wherever there

    are opportunities like at 168, or wherever and start fighting instead of

    sitting around in his mid-thirties fighting scrubs and wasting what's left of

    his prime. All this while his ignorant fan base claim he is being ducked and

    cant get a fight. Take some chances,Negotiate and do something to

    warrant a fight at whatever weight they become available.

    GGG is as ready as he'll ever be to fight Ward. It's now or never for him to make the most effective move regarding this fight.

    Agree, also Sergio deserves a big payday maybe even a few more before GGG, how anyone could begrudge him that is beyond me.

    If Sergio is as shot as everyone thinks what kind of pleasure would they get seeing a monster like GGG beatdown a hobbled old man, what fun would get out of that. Yet I think Sergio is anywhere near remotely healthy, he'll easily outbox Golovkin, the triangle theory with Macklin is not applicable with these 2. GGG got a shell of the Macklin that Martinez fought, Macklin had psychologically lost the fight before he stepped in the ring.

    If Stevens and Rosado can last 8 or 9 rounds, standing there like punching bags, I think a mobile Sergio would be hell for GGG still.

    I agree how is GGG any more Dangerous than Pavlik? howver that was a fresher and pre-injury Martinez. The Martinez that beat Chavez Jr has a very good chance of beting GGG.

    I am positive that if Sergio looks 80% against Cotto he will stop him and then fight GGG. Sergio has never ducked anyone. Injuries have slowed him, not his heart.

    Heres the thing: Sergio is a great champion. He had to put up with a lot of crap business wise that would have broken the will of lesser men. So has Golovkin. Not talking about the past couple years here, but prior to that he really got hosed hard.

    Also, GGG has tried to make fights with at least 3 at SMW that I know of. Two were signed off on by Team GGG and the other side ended up passing. (E-Rod, Chavez)

    Sounds Great.....but still does not hide the fact He is avoiding Golovkin both He and His trainer want nothing to do with Him.....Always admired Martinez but if He is not going to fight GGG He should retire...as for the Current Top Middleweight Division I have never seen a Bigger bunch of Pussies they are a Disgrace....they should give the Fans the fights that they all want instead of protecting there Padded records.!!!

    Why now or never? GGGs still growing in popularity and Ward's mired in legal battles with Goosen and doesn't look like he's fighting anyone soon.

    Both have got at least 5 or 6 years and perhaps 15 or 20 fights left in them - even if Ward can fight, GGGs team would have good reason to wait until he's unified or fought a coupla times at 168.

    I've never thought Maravilla was avoiding Golovkin though - guy can't be blamed for being injured and to fight Golovkin after a years lay-off would be absurd.

    Sergio deserves his payday and if he still looks like the Maravilla of old against Cotto I think he will fight Golovkin before he retires. If the Sergio who struggled with Murray shows up to fight Cotto, I don't think I want to see Golovkin - Martinez anyway.

    If you dont want to 'owe anyone ****', then you need to drop the lineal title.

    Holding a belt hostage because you are only going to be taking on money fights (which hey I agree, hes totally earned, which is why Ive wanted this fight for a long time against Cotto) is great, but if youre on your retirement tour against the marquee names that arent relivent to your title, while the guys who deserve the shot at their weightclasses champion dont get it, then the right thing to do is to drop it. Martinez's name holds its own value, same as every other top tier, p4p fighter in the sport today. When you reach their level, you define the belt, the belt doesnt define you. But when you start holding it hostage from the rightful challengers, thats when you become part of the problem in this sport.

    Citing a history of injustice (Martinez's career) to justify a current one (nobody fighting GGG) is part of the problem in boxing.


    Martinez vs Cotto is an awesome fight, especially considering Martinez's injuries, layoff, and age. Then you add that Martinez was avoided in his prime and is now getting a chance at the paydays he should have had years ago, and its great to at least see him getting it and Im glad this fight finally got made (I just hope Martinez can pull it off at this age)


    But holding the middleweight lineal title hostage by doing so, and letting miguel cotto, who really hasnt done **** at 154lbs, let alone at middleweight, a crack at it, is bull****.


    When old fighters want to start fighting the top names in the sport, that dont really deserve a crack at their titles, instead of taking on the real deserving challengers to the title they hold, then they should gracefully get out of holding the titles and just focus on making super fights in terms of star power.


    And Ill never understand using a history of bull****, to justify bull**** done to new fighters who had nothing to do with it in the first place.


    That all being said, Martinez is just coming off a huge injury and layoff, and he will almost certainly fight Golovkin next should he win impressively, so I dont have as big a problem with this fight as I would normally have given the circumstances. I am sure Martinez will fight Golovkin next if he doesnt retire, should he beat Cotto.


    But the point still remains, that it should be Golovkin fighting for the middleweight title... not Miguel Cotto, who has done nothing at 154, and never fought at middle.


    Cotto, Mayweather, and Mosley ducking Martinez throughout their careers doesnt change that.

    It's not about Golovkin beating Martinez. If Sergio is so old and 'shot' like you say so, then why is he considered the champion? As long as someone is the champion, he has the obligation to fight the best.

    I myself would like to see Sergio retiring on top, which means retirement after the Cotto fight. If he defeats Cotto and decides to continue, then he should fight Golovkin. If he chooses another opponent instead, then you have to ask a question about the worth of his lineal title.

    Martinez should beat cotto then fight golovkin otherwise he will look like a huge ducker. If Martinez wins against cotto but looks bad I think he will fight mayweather as mayweather will see it as a chance to sneak the middleweight title

    Sergio is "ducking" Golovkin you moron. However since sergio is 40, givin us many great fights for years he gets a pass. As much as I want to see the torch passed, I feel like Golovkin, could and will seriously hurt Martinez. I'd rather not see him get beaten to a bloody pulp in what would most likely be his last fight.

    It might not be that easy to get that GGG fight.

    Rubio has been mandatory for quite a while and may push to have that fight
