Losing money? Probably not, though not making nearly as much $$$ as they want.

With the Cable companies taking their big share from the PPV (I think 40%-45%), Floyd's guaranteed purse + paying the other fighters, advertising/promotion, etc...all that on top of Floyd's SHO deal.

For all the money invested into Mayweather he's not pulling the #'s he needs to keep SHO and it's parent companies happy. He needs to fight bigger or more popular fights, fans are tired of watching him fight "cherrypicked" opponents, and it's thsoe casual fans that bring in the big PPV numbers.

 

Don't forget, Schaefer's contract does not expire until 2018.........................that will be a problem for him..............


De la Hoya’s lawyer Bert Fields released a statement to the Los Angeles Times indicating that Schaefer is contractually bound to Golden Boy until 2018 and that contract will be enforced. Still no mention on this board about the contract? Why so?

 

Too bad their schedule is still just as **** as the network suffering promoter implosion. At least Showtime has an excuse for having nothing interesting booked for the second half of the year.

 

Yep. SHO sub base has increased and so has the visibility and ratings of its boxing cards.

Overall SHO/CBS probably pretty happy. Considering Showtime has afaik been getting its arse handed to them by HBO in terms of regular programming its not a stretch to at least strongly speculate that boxing has helped keep it relevant and Moonves is happy as a clam with the money he has dumped on boxing.

That being said, the daily grind at SHO is probably going to be more difficult in the near term due to these events and I would be floored if the HBO folks werent feeling at least a little smug.

Not sure why people think this. A deal of that magnitude is frankly above Espinoza's pay grade. Floyd always corrects people and says its a "SHO/CBS deal, people forget the CBS" for a reason.

Espinoza is a divisional VP. His job is to execute the terms of quarter billion dollar deals, not make them.

 

arum and moonves (espinoza's boss) are friends. arum claimed espinoza himself made the floyd/gbp deal.

 

Hbo gave financial help to at ARUM in order to help resign paquiao and in turn they've pledged to stay with HBO throughout the rest of the contract. so at least they still have that

 

I take that with a huge grain of salt. I am sure Espinoza was involved in the process, its his division involved so obviously.

 

It depends on their initial outlay and projected forecast. His next PPV may be massive after the Maidana fight and then Floyd may end up stinking out the joint again which would affect the 5th fight's PPV sales.

If they've invested let's say $300,000,000 into Floyd over 6 fights and get a return of only $350,000 over a 6 fight deal that is pretty poor.
