Cotto doesn't look that much physically smaller than Martinez now...

Martinez is used to fighter slightly larger men with less mobility and the option to get inside where their punches become less effective by virture of smothering and declined extension.....The roles are somewhat reversed here:think

He will face someone that will actually jab through his face while he bobs in with his guard down.
I noticed he kept doing that to Jr. all night and sometimes even lightly butt heads and Jr. never threw a punch. He only really started seriously
punching in the last two rounds.
Probably took him that long to time him....whatever....however, Cotto is an accurate puncher that ties up well and punches effectively on the inside with those short left hooks.

Cotto also has a history of being hittable. And Sergio's power is proven at 160.

I think it will be a close fight but Cotto is my tip to win. The Martinez of 5 years ago would be a different story though. Martinez will go down as one of the great middleweights.

So does Martinez who has found himself on the canvas often as of late...

Cotto took Mayorga's punches well...though he is not as a refined fighter as Martinez....he still punches harder though.

I think possibly many are putting too much stock in Martinez power....his claim to fame was a left cross at the right time in the right place....if you look at that punch closely Martinez threw it often and he finally caught Williams.
Martinez wasn't even looking as he flailed away in Hail Mary fashion!!!

Just like the saying goes, " a blind squirrel will eventually find a nut " !!!

The only time he was hurt was against Chavez and that guy weighs 180 lbs and can punch. And his claim to fame wasn't based on 1 fight (Williams). He beat Pavlik and Chavez and KOed several other solid, MW contenders. His power is legit at 160.

Sergio, has his hands full with a very technical and sound boxer/Puncher...i'm very interested to see now they adjust to each others tactics. Sergio, is usually the smaller fighter...make this an advantage for the inside fight and counter punch, however the situation is a little different now that Sergio is the big man...I believe Cotto will be close in his ribs...attacking the body and smothering Sergio's work.

Mayorga was certainly a devastating puncher at 147, but I don't think there's any real evidence that he punched that much harder than Martinez at 160, nor do I believe a comparison is relevant in the first place. Mayorga was a crude slugger while Sergio uses movement to create angles and the jab to set up his arsenal.
I really hope Cotto makes history on Saturday, but I must be objective when breaking fights down. I hope I'm wrong, but I believe Sergio's length and hand speed will be the keys to a victory for the Argentine.
