Yet Schaffer leaving a company with a defective owner is in bad taste ?:patsch

So your telling me you would continue to work for an employer who was in and out of rehab and has not run his own company in more then 5 years maybe even more, because of his drug problems?

You name one person who would stay loyal under those conditions..

Never romanticized old days. N I said fighters will be pawns MORE so than ever before. Boxing needs change but this isn't a step in the right direction. It was established long ago that managers and promoters must be separate entities. There is a huge conflict of interest otherwise. There's no two ways about it. There's laws in place to prevent it and these guys are circumventing them. If haymon is that strong manager why does he need schaefer? He should be able to deal with any promoter out there. Bob included. Your saying haymon is killing the depends on my promoter mindset...isn't he just replacing the promoter? It's no secret the guy dances around the Ali act. Look, these guys are money guys. That's it. Look at goosen, duva, dibella, shaw...yea they all wanna make money but they are all old boxing families. With trainers, managers, promoters...al and dick are big money business guys who seen an opportunity to get rich off a bunch of people not as smart as them. Bob was an obstacle they almost toppled, oscar another. N mybe they still will topple them. But oscar, dumb as he may be perceived, seen it coming. This stuff with bob n an olive branch was preemptive.

Haymon has dealt with pretty much any promoter out there during the time in his business. It was Bob that refused to work with him, not the other way around, but I'm sure that's because Top Rank really took the best interests of its clients to heart.

As an aside, it's been especially interesting to me to see how many people are suddenly interested in the Ali Act yet have had nothing to say about Koncz's clearly problematic relationship with TR for years.

i could care less how many times oscars been to rehab....how much coke he blew....what kind of womens clothes he put on

the bottom line is....he hired schaefer to run his company....richard was running it well.....leave well enough alone and there is nothing to complain about

schaefer didnt just decide one day he didnt wanna work with bob arum after he woke up....he didnt just decide "i wanna keep our fights in house".....it was bob arums disrespect, on many occasions, that lead him to that decision......and oscar should have schaefers back.......at the very least oscar should have tried to get bob and richard together to hash things out(maybe he did...i dont know)....but you dont do/say some of the **** arum has done and then turn around and try to act nice and say "i wanna make fights with them"....thats two faced ****.....

i really dont know what kind of awesome fights oscar thinks hes gonna make with arum......but whatever.....the guy has no right to complain or have people feel bad for him.....he had a good CEO in place that was doing the company well...haymons fighters werent going anywhere even without actual "deals"....

I don't blame him for leaving either.... but that is not the point here. He was carrying shady business with Al while working with GBP and not looking out for GBP's best interest while being a CEO of a company. It's not like GB was not paying him, or treating him poorly. Do you know what a CEO's job duties are? It sure doesn't sound like it if you think Schaffer is completely innocent.

hbo refused to work with haymon I believe. Not bob. Bob will work with anyone. He just wants the upper hand all the time. But he won't shut the door on anyone. Especially someone with as big a stable as Haymon. That's money to him. Far as Konz goes... he doesn't have a huge stable of fighters careers in his hands. He doesn't have a fraction of the sway that Schaefer Haymon has. Its Sad that your trying to sneak in a pacquiao shot?? I'm not suddenly interested in the Ali act. I'm bringing it up becuz its being loopholed by the 2 most powerful guys in the sport. Konz is of no interest to really anybody. Besides pacquiao and bob arum. Neither of whom has **** to do with this discussion.

Bob refused to work with Haymon since well before the HBO ban. It's mind boggling to me that people don't seem to know this. He was mad when Haymon helped Floyd leave, mad when Williams beat Margarito, he wasted everyone's time with the Williams-Pavlik failed negotiations, and he declared Haymon's presence would make the Pacquiao fight impossible in 2009. The reason he says Khan or Garcia could fight Pacquiao if they go back to Golden Boy is because he wants them to not be with Haymon. The same applies to all the hot air about Floyd going solo or how easy the fight is to make if he were to align with King or 50 Cent, two guys he'd more easily roll in negotiations.

Koncz's Ali Act violations are far clearer than anything Schaefer and Haymon have done. He's literally on the payroll of a promoter while managing his chief client in the direction of that promoter, even going so far as to not even disclosing contracts to the person who's supposed to be his chief client (by chief client, I mean Pacquiao here, not the promoter he's in bed with).

it's funny now that ppl are accusing haymon of only having "in house fights" when that's been arums mode of operation all along.

shane had to sign with him to get the pac fight.

barrera had to sign with him to get the pac fight.

bradley had to sign with him to get the pac fight.

they were trying to lure guerrero over for a pac fight.

I never heard bob say he wouldn't work with Al or Schaefer. I've heard only Schaefer and HBO make absolute statements in that regard. Whether one would or wouldn't in reality is different possibly but I've only heard absolutes for Shafer and HBO. Once again... no one cares what Konz is doing at the moment. Ive only heard conjecture on the matter and besides that its about one guy. We are talking a huge number of fighters with Haymon not ONE. Konz is a piece of crap. Not sure why you are bringing that **** up like I'm defending him. Don't spin me as being on one side of some stupid war. That's what it sounds like you are. I'm a fan of the sport. And Haymon is subject of this thread not Konz.

    You base this on what?

Who says he needs Schaefer? They had a mutually beneficial relationship. Al supplied the top end talent, Schaefer provided the logistics. As I said in another thread, Al Haymon could walk into Don King Promotions or SMS or any other promoter's office tomorrow and get it right back poppin'.

So? A manager, by definition, makes his money through the boxer getting paid. From that standpoint, his own interests are aligned with doing right by the fighter.

Is that not what we as fans want: a financially viable sport where the money is lining the pockets of the actual fighters, not promotional banners.

Can you prove this? Or is just rumor spread by the folks who he's starting to beat out for power and clients?

And those 'old boxing families' are a part of the same corrupt arse system that boxing fans have been bitching about for the last 50 years. You think those guys rose to the top in this dirty sport without being sharklike themselves?

I just don't get this handwringing panic over 'money guys' making moves in a sport that NO fan would deny has been dirty throughout its history. I just don't get it.

What are you afraid of? That these fighters are starting to wake up and ask for a REAL cut of all that dough these promoters and networks have been screwing them out of?
