Skillwise, is Cotto the best fighter Maravilla has faced?

He proved and showed who was bigger and more durable.

I don't think Cotto ever got anything going to prove Margarito's durability. Margarito outclassed him the first time. Size probably had something to do with it but Margarito was just better.

Cotto is not a supremely skillful boxer. Never has been.

Better, yes. More skillful, no. Cotto was out-boxing Margarito but Margarito was big enough, durable enough and fit enough to keep on coming, applying pressure and landing hard shots. Cotto lost that fight because he was too small, didn't have enough stamina and was not tough enough, not because Margarito was more skilled than him.

Neither is Margarito or most of the other fighters Sergio has faced.

Cotto has underrated skills. He has great footwork a good jab and is one of the best combination punchers alive today. Martinez will find it difficult to create space with his feet he will have to throw a jab in order to keep cotto off him. Because of their styles cotto is fight will see the smaller cotto stalking and cutting the ring off while the bigger stronger fighter in Martinez will be looking to attack from range. Martinez should win but cotto can and will hurt Martinez because he posses the most complete skill set of any of his past opponents

No. Cheating had everything to do with it. As the fight went on the cement hardened and the rest is history. Margarito did nothing to bother Cotto in the rematch. Nothing.

    Other way around, for me.

Williams had the gas tank and some intangibles on Cotto, but inferior actual boxing skills. Cotto is pretty much textbook.

Both have imperfect (read: human!) chins that get underrated because of a few bad nights.

Cotto is much more skillful than Williams. Williams is a freak with his height and activity level. His skill level for a world class fighter is nothing to write him about, to say the least.

What good did Cotto's skills do against Margarito, Pacquiao, Mayweather, Trout, Mosley, Clottey who beat him or came close.

Martinez is a big as Margarito, weighs more than anyone Cotto has fought, has longer reach, has the speed and power to counter any skill Miguel may have.

Williams, Murray, Chavez, Dzinziruk, Barker, Pavlik would probably easily beat Miguel Cotto, yet Martinez beat them.
