If Cotto were to lift the lineal middleweigh title, that would be incredible...

Why would Cotto need to fight GGG before becoming the Lineal champ?

Hopkins won the WBA, WBC, IBF and WBO titles - Taylor - Pavlik - Martinez - Cotto doesn't get much clearer than that.

Also think GGG is the best at the weight but Cotto is the king until proven otherwise.

The threadstarter said that Froch-Groves II was more important than this fight a week ago...

I'll take this thread as you coming to your senses.

You did, and you know it.

    It's in my poll.

Cotto-Martinez is more important than Froch-Groves II. True or False?

Thats just a stat. You can use a stat to say anything.

Anybody can get hold of a belt through certain circumstances. Its who you beat it from that counts.
Martinez was done for and came to the ring with nothing , only for a paycheck.

Cotto unless he defends the title is no legit MW Champ of the world. He got in there through politics before all the ranked MW contenders and he will likely never defend against any of them.
He can call himself 'MW Champ' but I saw nothing impressive about that win.

It IS false, you ****ing spastic fruitcake. Only a racist, nationalist obsessed genuinely stupid ****head like yourself would struggle to understand.

    Q: IS GROVES-FROCH MORE IMPORTANT THAN COTTO-MARTINEZ?
    A: NO

    Q: IS COTTO-MARTINEZ MORE IMPORTANT THAN GROVES-FROCH?
    A: NO

Both were hugely important fights. Both were crucial in different ways. I wouldn't insult either headliner by writing off either fight as more or less important than the other.

But for a dip**** troll stupid **** like you, that's not making any sense now, is it?

Most of all, what Ii want to point out about this stat is that it will be of some importance in 100 years time.

Will Rahmans stint as Lineal HW Champ be of any importance in 100's years time. And in his case his victory was 100x greater than Cotto's.

Yes, I agree, on all counts.

Yes, Rahman's victory will remain significant in 100 years time. For people who are interested in boxing history, assuredly.

Cotto will have his name in the timeline but as for being an important, histortic and memorable MW Champion, i don't think so.
Its not just the winners that matter ,but the opponents as well.

Rahams claim as lineal HW champ doesn't really hold that much significance. Especially when it was snatched back off him brutally in the rematch.
Cottos claim will be just be a guy who temporarily held it beating a guy who had no business fighting.
There won't be the glory for Cotto like there was for Duran who fought a live and game Barckley who could actually fight back and was not inactive out of injuries.

Oh, I think unquestionably not. I'll be honest, I don't think he'll win a single defence.

    But for a former 140lb title-holder, it's a historically significant feat.

Here, I disagree. I mean before I even knew boxing well I knew names Like Marvin Hart and Tom Sharkey, guys who held a questionable hold on the proper, proper title but because it was the proper title I knew them. If you beat the man you catch some glitter.

    Always have, always will.

But if you disagree, that's fine, I won't argue abotu what the next hundred years will hold.

You could argue that Rahman's win was greater, given that he KO'd a healthy, prime Lennox and that Martinez appeared over the hill in his last his last outing more than a year ago, and had two fukced-up knees since that.

But it was a bit of a gamble for Cotto and you have to give him credit for having the balls tp risk a career-ending beatdown, which is surely what he could have expected had he faced the best version of Sergio.
