I understand why people are high on him. He has a very exciting style and is racking up knockouts.

But he has yet to fight a great champion, even though he has some solid wins under his belt.

He has too step up before we can say anything about his calibre as a fighter.

 

He was clearly past it, inactive with serious injuries and knew that only a fight that could bring him some money on PPV would be worth taking before retirement. He made the right decision. Fighting GGG, who lacks a single significant win, wouldn't have done crap for him.

 

He wasnt ducking ggg. He was out for 14 months. So cotto was his tune up fight fool.

 

The saddest fact regarding GGG, is that he is already 32. Total BS. He should have been fighting the best for the last 4 years. Instead he is being ducked. Unfortunately, this means he is going to be fighting his toughest fights as he enters the twilight of his career. Just not right.

This is what has happened to Provodnikov as well. Guys that are considered too tough are avoided, and then they are hit with too many tough fights in succession, because the public finally realizes what boxing fans knew for years, and demand it. It takes its toll.

The only thing he'd have gotten is a worse beating for less money.

Although, if the PPV sales didn't do well, the difference in money wouldn't be nearly as wide as people would expect since Martinez was only guaranteed 1.5. He'll need the PPV upside to make it a huge difference.

Sergio's gameplan looked smart on paper- drag up Cotto and use it to shake the rust off against a smaller fighter with much more name value (maybe take less than you're worth- hey, you'll just leverage that W into a bigger payday with Canelo). It looked like a very winnable fight going into it.

Cotto had other plans, of course. But DiBella was never going to give GGG a chance unless it was Sergio's last fight and he'd gotten through Cotto and Canelo first.

 

(Scar) Compared to Golovkin they were cherry picks and everybody knows Dibella was scared to death of Martinez facing him, so he choose easier opponents.

 

Lifetime IP ban bet if the fight goes down, then?

So Golovkin would have been a better and bigger fight than Chavez in 2012? . Murray didn't exactly prove to be a cherry pick either with his impressive performance. Wake me up when Golovkin scores a single significant win.

 

I think the only cherry picking going on is whomever is cherry pickin' GGG opponents!
