The WBA has decided that Luis Ortiz's next fight can be for the WBA interim title. The winner would be mandatory for the winner of Chagaev-Oquendo.

Ortiz's manager is looking for a willing opponent:

Edit: looks like Ortiz will be fighting Alexander Ustinov.

this must be part of GBP's secret plan to take the HW belts back to the US one by one

Strange we don't see Ortiz in any decent matchups, I hope it finally ends with this mandatory eliminator.

Guys like Arreola, Adamek, Helenius, Charr, Dimitrenko, Tarver, Thompson, Browne, Solis, should be placing their calls to offer their services, it won't get any easier than this for a shot at Wlad.

I hope this fight at least tells us more about the quality of fighter Ortiz is.

Ortiz is a kind of an enigma for me, just as Takam was before the Perez fight. Could this be really the dark horse in GBP stable?

Ustinov destroyed Tua, a legend from the previous era with ease so this Ortiz wont stand a chance.

If both of these fights (Chag v Oquen and Ortiz v Ustinov) happen, and the winners face off later in the year, then the winner of this mini-tournament would be a suitable title challenger and paper champ. Presumably the winner would then have to face a major contender like Povetkin or Haye or Fury before being fed to Wlad. So kudos to the WBA if these fights all go down.

There's only one champ at heavyweight, so right now heavyweight needs some paper titles to generate interest.... Look at the flurry of fighters aiming for the WBC title--they know Stiverne is a hell of a lot more vulnerable than Wlad!

So we get Chagaev vs Oquendo for the WBA Regular Paper belt, and now Ortiz vs Ustinov for the WBA Toilet Paper belt... What's next? :blood
