Cotto/Golovkin potentially most entertaining and explosive fight in recent memory?

That I can rest assured won't happen. The moment Golovkin lands a stiff jab, Cotto will be on the defensive just like everyone else. Cotto has a damn good jab himself but we've seen what Golovkin's does to people; not only does it knock them down, it creates cuts. I admit I got the Martinez fight wrong but I was hoping he was going to be better healed than he actually was so that was a variable that was impossible to determine. Cotto has good power himself also but GGG is on another level. And the main factor to me is that Cotto being the naturally smaller man, won't be able to handle Golovkin's body shots for an entire fight.

 

Would this be a bigger test for cotto vs mayweather and pacman?

If he was 4 years younger he probably would take this fight

But right now he wants to sort out his pension/retirement fund and I don't blame him tbh

 

I only watched the Martinez fight last night but I thought Cotto looked STRONG! A lot stronger than I was expecting and very effective. Now, I don't know how much that had to do with Martinez' physical condition but Cotto seemed to hurt him with every clean shot. He looked rejuvenated. I'd love to see Cotto take on Alvarez next as I think it's more winnnable for him than GGG but a fight with GGG would be awesome. Cotto is suddenly back in the big-fight mix!!

 

I wouldn't blame Cotto at all for not fighting Golovkin, he should go for Canelo and if he takes Canelo out, then go for GGG.

I just can't see him beating GGG.

 

Fan of both guys but GGG clearly wins this in a brutal fashion.

 

I never understood when people say Cotto needs to think about retiring he is only 33 one year older then GGG.

 

I'd rather see Cotto go for the winner of Alvarez/Lara if they can make it happen with the network/promotional conflict.

 

Cotto isn't a middleweight ffs, he gets destroyed by any world class middleweight who isn't hobbling around the ring.

And all of the sudden GGG has been tested so much we know for sure he will be able to handle Cotto's body work himself? If we know anything GGG is there to be hit. Roach's fighters are know to be acurate with punches in bunches. Not saying one is better than the other, but this would be a heck of a fight and a close one for how ever long it lasted.

 

Without a doubt! Just last year a power puncher that had been knocking everyone out came up against a more skilled competitor that had the chin to stand in there and land the more accurate shots in Garcia-Matthysse.

Cotto has a a solid beard and his recent defensive work has been much better. It seems he took the footwork from Pedro and added the offensive prowless that Roach supplies and has become a much better/rejuvanated fighter at this elder age.

GGG is a monster but no one goes through it all easy.

 

Getting really sick of this being used. We know he's not a slick guy but he gets hit just about as much as a normal fighter who isn't a defense first type fighter. Every boxer is there to be hit.

 

Agreed....much more entertaining than watching Cotto slap around a Red Headed Punching Bag!!!
