Despite his sensational win over Martinez at the weekend and becoming the lineal 160 champ, I think it's safe to say in many peoples eyes that Golovkin is the nĂºmero uno in the division and not Cotto.

But what I would like to know is if Cotto doesn't fight Golovkin next as he is:-

Unproven, fought nobodies, overated etc who does he fight?

For every poster out there who claims Golovkin doesn't deserve the fight, which fighter in your opinion has done more or deserves it more at 160.

    I'd love to know.

Cotto isn't going to fight any proper Middleweight and even if he does Roach will demand his favorite thing a disgraceful 'catchweight' fight. :rofl:patsch

I bet he fights Canelo. He isn't going near a legit Middleweight.

I can see him fighting Canelo if he beats Lara which I think he will.

If Cotto want this to be a one time thing and move straight back down to 154 then fair enough but if he's staying at 160 he should do the right thing and give GGG his chance to fight for the lineal title.

Cotto won't fight any true MW. Too many options to choose from and MW's aren't it.

He could fight the other belt holders, Quillin or Soliman. They might not deserve it more than GGG but the fights could be justified by the fact that they would be unification bouts, Cotto being new to the weight and saving the best (GGG) until last (after he has attempted to win the other belts).

I would think he will actually end up fighting Canelo, Floyd or Pacquiao though. All of those fights could be justified IMO:

Cotto vs Pac would be Cotto trying to avenge a loss plus Pac going for a title in another division.
Cotto vs Floyd would also be Miguel trying to avenge a loss plus Floyd is P4P #1 and would also be going for a title in another division.
Cotto vs Canelo is PR vs Mexico and is just a good match-up.

All three of them would sell well.

The only fighter that is calling to fight Cotto after His victory over Martiez is Chavez jr. Claiming that the belt He got form Martinez is from him.

Canelo makes all the sense in the world. And please don't tell me you thought for a second he'd stay at 160 even if he won. He weighed in at 155. The intent was always to go back to 154.

I guess Golovkin will eagerly agree to any catchweight down to 155, if that is the condition on which Cotto agrees to fight him. This is definitely worth of PPV. And money-wise Cotto can make more money than against Canelo, by taking a much larger portion of a pie.

I have thought about a fight between Void and Cotto, but I really believe that Void would be afraid of Cotto now. HBO wants a fight between Golovkin and Cotto, but doubt if Cotto comes near Golovkin. The healthy Martinez would have knocked Cotto out, but Martinez appeared to know that this was his last fight, he knew his knees were bad, not to mention his shoulder, hand, etc., he was falling apart.

Sorry, but you're way off on this one. Canelo-Cotto would he absolutely HUGE. We're talking about a fight between 2 of the 3 biggest draws in the sport. Golovkin needs to acquire ,at least, one of the other belts before he's a viable option for a major PPV event.

I'm not sure the belt have anything to do with it - but he could definitely use another good performance or two. Depends on his ratings/sales - his upcoming Geale fight as A-side of a #1 vs #2 will be the determining factor on whether he can get Cotto.

If he does 1.4m nielson and sells the majority of the good seats, and totals 6-7k tickets at MSG he will be considered. If he busts through to 1.5m and sells all 9k at a reasonable clip, he will be strongly considered.(PPV estimates are based largely on ticket sales)

Of course there are other factors, but the bottom line is Arum and Todd and Ken are going to be keeping a close eye on his next fight, how it sells - and just as importantly who is buying/watching - and combined with his performance will give them an idea of whether to lock him down with a big fight for Cotto or Chavez.

The one thing GGG has in his favor regarding Cotto, is he also likes fighting at MSG. If he can draw a crowd on his own, that means more/higher priced ticket sales, which as A-side means more money for Cotto which means more chance of fight getting made.
