    This is true.

However, Dawson was blasted last week for not looking good against Johnson, who is just as much a spoiler as Hopkins.

I think it's fair to say it's not an "American Bias" thing, because obviously other fighters are criticized in this very manner.

ACB is frutrated at the generalization that goes on here from both sides, but currently due to the results of this fight, it seems to be a stronger "Anti American Bias" than usual.

IMO, neither looked great, though I though Calzaghe won by 3 points.

I am an American, pulled for Hopkins and was embarrased by his performance, with all the dirty tactics(which was expected) and the whinning about the low blows!

IMO, Hopkins did NOT win more than 4 rounds and could definitely feel
the frustration of those pulling for Calzaghe when he pulls out what I saw as a clear victory only to have any American poster ***** and complain that Hopkins got robbed:bart

About the American bashing..yeah I'm noticing that. It's obvious that some people here have a pre-existing disdain for us and are finding ways to justify it. Hell yeah there are a lot of American posters at ESB that are buffoons but I don't' like being generalized and grouped into someone's hate.

I have mixed feelings about him. On one hand, I am in awe that he can do what he does at this age. On the other hand, I am also embarrased for him doing what he did after that low blow. He was clutching at straws.

Thats it, its simple. Its an abuse by some Brits here towards Americans that is becoming more and more pronounced. Its a contention that Americans are idiots as a whole, whenever posters write something about Calzaghe that isn't gleaming with compliments.

I don't see this from Flips to Mexicans, or from Mexicans to PR's, near so much as I see it here.

I feel that there is something to be said for stepping up to another level of competition that joe had never seen before, though.

Okay, I'm sorry ACB for calling you an idiot!

You know what, I'll agree, compared to himself, Joe wasn't impressive. Especially if you expected more vs. a 43 years-old (but that wasn't the right thinking). Because compared to Hopkins, he was more impressive vs. the old man than ANYONE since Jones!

I'm not from the US or the UK, so I don't have the pressure on my shoulders to cheer for or against anyone. I just sit back, relax and watch.

All I saw is Calzaghe finally giving a fair loss to Hopkins, a guy 2nd on my p4p list, who barely lost a fight since fighting Roy Jones, including the two controversial losses vs. Taylor. And now, Calzaghe MOVING UP IN WEIGHT, getting up from the canvas did more than Glen, Oscar, Tito, Antonio and Winky could.

You can drive 200 mph in a Ferrari in an airport. You're still gonna struggle in a canyon.

JMM got knocked down in the first but stood up and fought a great fight. If he got the respect, Joe should get it as well.

Good post. I agree with you on many points here. Calzaghe deserves respect for getting up from the canvas and shaking it off and for beating Bernard the way he did.

My dissapointment with him was not in what Bernard took away from him, but with what was still there that he wasn't utilizing. For example, Bernard with his counterpunching is going to take away some of the activity level, but Calzaghe should have still been stepping off to the right of Bernard's lead foot and throwing his jab. That would have also helped him nuetralize the overhand right that Bernard likes to throw. Joe was moving in and out too straight tonight. I know he is capable of better footwork.

Joe is a better counter puncher than pressure fighter, so he is already playing a role that does not suit him as b-hop was on his bike all night out of harms way. Hard to look good chasing down b-hop.
The 1st round knockdown was the worst thing that could have happend for the fight as b-hop just kept on the back foot avoiding any action early on.

Dawson looked bad when Johnson was pressuring him and taking the fight to him, although johnson spoils it not on the same level as b-hop and he is a fighter who can come after you, unlike b-hop in recent years who is always on his bike.

It seems he was a bit confused after the KD, but who would've been? :)

I agree, of course he's capable of much more, but it's the way a Hopkins fight goes. Winky couldn't use his P4P jab, Tito his P4P power, Oscar his jab and P4P handspeed, Tarver his Jones-KO-ing size and power advantage. I'm sure Calzaghe was focusing on not getting hit by those nice counters and maybe wasn't experienced enough to make the adjustments you are referring to.

But in the 2nd half of the fight, he was getting hit with less clean punches and fought very smart. I've never seen Hopkins as CONFUSED as he was in faking those low blow incidents. In the end, Joe was in control and outsmarted one of the smartest guys ever.
