I agree that if Martinez was healthy he would have beaten Cotto, but that is not the question. Pavlik is a much bigger puncher than Cotto. The fact that Martinez outlasted and beat a shopworn Pavlik is not the same thing. Cotto returned the favor this past weekend to Martinez, for the same reasons. Martinez is shot.

What we do know, is he didn't take Cotto's best hits.. Who really knows exactly what % he was. Hell, maybe that same punch hurts a 100% Sergio.

Boxing is not always as black and white as you are making it out to be when it comes to power and punch resistance.. I have seen many fighters hurt of what appears to be lesser shots than I have seen them absorb with ease previously.

 

No way. Cotto just has better boxing skills and so could land lots of flush punches. Pavlik couldn't land cleanly.

 

So many factors play role in a boxing match. Factors such as age, preperation, weight, health, motivation and even luck. Fans too often try direct comparisons. Maidana did very well against Mayweather but lost every minute of every round against Alexander. Is Alexander better than Mayweather?

Exactly....Caper mentioned this last week...regarding Sergio fighting a smaller opponent could present some difficult dynamics for him!!!

 

i've noticed people acting like Cotto is the hardest puncher to hit Martinez. Cotto actually would hit him with glancing shots in the fight and he would still buckle. His legs are simply gone, they cant support his weight when he gets even slightly dizzy anymore

Unless I'm confusing him with somebody else Cotto was always a murderous puncher. His punches are impetuous.

 

Those types of comments are laughable. If you put the Sergio Martinez, in the ring with That Pavlik, Martinez would have been KO'd inside of 2 rounds.

 

I think it's a combination of Martinez being shot and Cotto's perfect punch on the temple.
