Algeri hit provo with everything but the kitchen sink. You cant take points away from the guy for not having a punch. He consistently landed the cleaner blows and outlanded ruslan every round. The knockdowns made the fight very close

i watched till about the 8th and then fell asleep...i seen provo win 2 rounds out the 8(with 2 KD in the first)...looked to me like the fight was gonna go 12 and if it continued the way it was going algerie would take it....looks like he did from what im reading now....

provo is a good fighter, but is too one dimensional and cant adapt in the ring if needed...he is the type of fighter which brings the same fight every time...predictable enough

This is what drives people away from the sport. If this was an amateur bout, I can see Algieri winning on points. But in the pros, it is not just the number of punches landed but the number of "meaningful punches."

Ruslan makes the mistake of ignoring punches that push his head back. He could care less about "appearances." He wants to land meaningful punches. He did that. But for those who are enamored with the pitty pat nonsense, they quickly point out how Algieri was "landing" more punches than Ruslan.

I gotta tell you, I am so fed up with this kind of nonsense, and then the guys who think they are the experts with the discerning eye, who have a greater understanding of the fight game rush in to point out how "more" punches were landed by Algieri, as if one can't differentiate between the two. Give me a break. If this is how they are going to score these types of fights, I won't tune in. I can tell you one thing, I won't be watching another Chris Algieri fight any time soon. "Boxing fans" can have it.

And is it any wonder Ward was the one who was calling it an upset before the decision was revealed? Classic.

I to don't like that style but it's not against any rules, it's called boxing and he boxed perfect for his style. He knows he ain't got a huge dig so why should he stand and trade with someone who does ?. It's up to the other fella surely to work out a way to stop him moving and cut him off.

boxing is what mayweather and hopkins do. its not running throwing pitty pat punches. he does not resemble them at all. even khan who sometimes runs when hurt does not fight like algeri at all.

You're right, being in survival mode is not against the rules. Algieri did this quite well. Do you at any point feel he controlled Provo? Do you think he ever hurt Provo? Conversely, do you think Provo ever controlled Algieri? Do you think Provo ever hurt Algieri?

Want some cheese to go with that whine?

Provo didn;t "choose to ignore the shots that pushed back his head". On those occasions he would stop in his tracks and then have to reset. That's effective, meaningful punching-in the amateurs and in the pros.

In most rounds, Algieri would spend 2:30 of each round landing more and forcing resets, then get tagged with a single shot that would cause Lampley and Kellerman to cream themselves with excitement (in spite of the fact that following the first Algieri was able to absorb the shot pretty well).

Algieri was busted up, but you don't score the blood. You score based on effective aggression (Algieri often initiated the action), defence (Algieri threw and landed more and at a higher percentage), clean effective punching (which we've covered), and ring generalship (after the second, the pace and tempo suited the challenger).

There are different ways to win fights rather than simply bludgeoning an opponent through brute force. Algieri's method was just as effective and valid than most...probably even more so, given the zult.

I thought it was pathetic. Algieri is 5" taller and runs around crouched low like a ****ing midget, slapping punches. How can anyone reward pitty pat slapping punches, from a guy whose 5" taller?

You could score it either way based on how you want to score it, its as the unofficial judge said, there is no set rule in how to score this kinda match. Someone loves 3 pity pat vs 1 big shot, who wins?

This is not amateur boxing so I score it the way Kellerman does, and that is asking, who would you rather have been in that round. Boxing is about hurting afterall, so really the person who got hurt the most should lose the round.

Eye swollen shut, nose bloodied, doctors checking him throughout fight to see if he can continue, probably minor brain damage, but, yeah, he was effective and won the fight.

Yet, in spite of all that facial damage, Algieri remained competitive. If he didn't that fight would have been stopped. So I guess Algieri must have done a good job of returning fire, holding his own, and being effective after all.

Thanks for proving my point. :good
