Andre Ward said it best "Algieri put on a boxing clinic for the majority of the fight

Algieri deserved the win. Horrible commentary by HBO I agree. The agenda just bleeds through them so heavily...

 

Ward is often the only level-headed voice on that panel. Can you imagine how bad the HBO commentary would be if they had a fighter-commentator who spewed the same garbage that Kellerman/Lampley/Wisefeld gave us last night?

 

It was a JMM vs Paquiao type performance.
I had Algeria up by 2pts for the win.
It was a good fight.
Ward had good insight.
Proc got schooled.
A lot of that was the result of his early success in round 1.
He became obsessed with a one punch KO
I saw no real commitment to body punching or feinting to try & get inside.

 

Put on a clinic on how to fight when you are getting hurt.

 

It was a JMM vs Paquiao 1 type fight just not as close.
I had Algeri up by 2pts for the win same as 2/3 judges
Ward had great insight.
Prov was schooled.
He became infatuated with a one punch KO after his good work in round 1.
But like JMM when he picked himself up again & again in round 1 vs Pac 1.
Algeri made the necessary adjustments.
Prov had no real commitment to a body attack after round 1.
He needs to feint more to get inside & setup some combination punching.
Height & reach showed up BIG 2night.
Prov couldn't crack the code.

 

Prov is very one dimensional but very fan friendly.He will be back against other fighters who are brawlers and make entertaining veiwing numbers.He is far from finished.
Algieri is a very skilled and likeable fighter and they can build him up in the New York City area-especially in Long Island at the dump Coliseum.

 

Now that I saw the fight again, I still believe that Provodnikov won for me but it's definitely a 50/50 fight that could go either way.

 

A clinic? Not according to his eye.

 

The boxing clinic took place after the eye was closed. Makes it even more impressive, to be honest.

 

Anyone who thinks that was a clinic needs to follow another sport.

Ward is pretty good with the commentary, certainly more insightful than any of the other guys on HBO. Although I thought Provo won, it was close and I have no problem with the decision. Great job by Algieri, he really made a name for himself last night.

The HBO crew is getting worse by the fight. I could not believe how bad it was during the fight. What fight was Lampley watching? He was cheering so hard, Ward was almost afraid to admit he thought Algieri was winning. Algieri was putting on a boxing clinic and these clowns are talking about how dominant Ruslan is.
