Good riddance to the casuals then. If casuals can't appreciate serious will and skill in the most dangerous sport then they're better off watching two grown up men in panties molesting one another on the canvas in an octagon.
The difference with him is that he's actually active the entire fight with his offense. He throws 1000 punches in a fight, regardless of how much he boxes. Unlike mayweather who throws a measly 400 punches per fight
i totally hear ya. the more casuals attracted to the sport, the better the industry becomes. that being said, as a hardcore boxing fan, i don't really worry what casuals think because they would rather see two guys fight like idiots. i've heard people complain and say the same thing about hopkins being a "boring" fighter, truth be told, i don't miss his fights and enjoy the subtleties he displays that most casuals would ignore or fail to pick up on.
Just of out curiousity but would you label the following boxer (Serik Sapiyev) a runner? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cJ2LWJzTkyI
Good looks beautiful style to watch, fast hands, smooth combos, and elegant footwork tassels on his shoes short shorts This guy is going to be huge.
I can't understand why so many people don't realize that there are more than 1 way to do things. Algieri doesn't have KO power, but has other skills that allow him to compete and succeed as a professional boxer. Guys like him, Malignaggi, et al have my respect. It takes balls to get in the ring with a guy who you know can take your head off, and you don't have the power to deter him. It's that contrast in styles that makes for exciting fights. They say variety is the spice of life. And styles make fights. If every fighter fought the same style, how long do you think boxing would last? It would get boring right quick.
What horse****. That was a good fight, lots of punches, lots of skill on display in a manner that translates to TV. What Rigo does, does not translate well to TV because there is so little movement. Algieri is a different case, lots of dodging lots of punching. Not sure how someone is boring just because they dont have KO power. I think most people casual or otherwise who saw that fight enjoyed it. If every fight was two guys standing toe to toe people would get bored of that too. Its good to see different types of fights, even for casuals - as long as there is plenty of activity and action that can be seen on TV.
No fighting style is wrong for boxing. It is what it is. Patty cake punches don't count for **** to me tho. Hate hearing guys say that if he had power ruslan would be ko'd. If the guy sat down on his punches to create some power his style would be totally different. This isn't the amateurs. Simply putting a glove on your opponent shouldn't count for ****. There was NO effective aggression from Algieri. The only thing he was effective at was not getting ko'd. I feel bad for ruslan. He's got 3 losses all arguable and it seems like the bigger story of each loss is how his opponents had so much heart and survived. Is that how u win world titles? By surviving? I just don't get it. All the fans of algieris style should really get into amateur fighting cuz that's what it is. N there ain't nothin wrong with loving the amateurs. I know guys who don't like pro fighting. All about the sweet science to them. The pros are about beating your opponent. Effective aggression. Telling blows. Ring generalship. Tippy tap punches off the Backfoot all night trying like hell to avoid getting ko'd just doesn't seem like a fight to me.
